Frank Jose Mestas

1936-2026

Frank, a proud father of five children, 90 years old, passed away on March 9th, 2026, at home in the presence of his family.

He was born in Mesita, Colorado in 1936 to Ascension Martha Mestas and Jose Guadalupe Mestas. Frank later traveled to Chicago where he attended Coyne Electrical Radio and Television School to fulfill his dream of learning a new and evolving technology called television. After technical school he was sworn into the Army at the age of 17 on January 31st, 1955, where he was shipped off to basic training at Fort Bliss in El Paso. He was promoted to Sergeant on April 2nd, 1957, and honorably discharged on April 24th, 1959.

Frank was a devoted and loving father to Elaine, Cynthia, Frank Jr. and Thomas who dearly miss him and the life lessons he imparted to them. Among them was "No matter what you do in life, be the best," and "Be a leader, don't be a follower."

He took great pride in being a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Acting as Adjutant at Chapter 3 for 13 years and then as State Commander from 1988 to 1989.

Frank was preceded in death by his daughter Patricia; his parents, Jose and Martha; and his siblings, Helen, Freda, Tina, and Arthur.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lucille; daughters Elaine and Cynthia; sons Frank Jr. and Thomas; and his cherished grandchildren, Ettony, Lainet, Tory, Frankie, Shanise, Savannah, Alexandria, Amanda, and Abagail.

A rosary and viewing will be held at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 4th Street, Albuquerque, NM 87114, at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, immediately followed by the funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m.

Lucille, I was so sad to read this in our veterans meeting minutes. He will be greatly missed by so many. I would love to be there to hug you support you many thoughts and prayers. Go out to you much love.
