J. Eichwald Obituary

J. Margo Eichwald

(1939-2024)

Margo Eichwald, age 84, of Corrales, NM passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on February 9, 2024.

Margo was born in Kilgore, TX in 1939 to Joyce LaSeur and Jimmie Walsh, and later adopted by Morgan Nelson and grew up in Carlsbad and Roswell, NM. She attended Roswell High School before studying nursing at University of New Mexico and later had a long and rewarding career as a family practice nurse in Albuquerque.

While at UNM, she met the love of her life, Lawrence Eichwald. It was her smile that caught Larry's eye. Margo noticed his beautiful blue eyes and his endearing charm. Excited to start their new life together, the two were married in Roswell, NM and shortly thereafter moved to Seattle, Washington where Ricardo was born, followed by Maria and then Michelle in Albuquerque.

The family settled in Corrales in the 70's with Larry's extended family nearby.

With Larry's untimely death, Margo raised her children as a single mom. Even though it wasn't always easy, she did it with gratitude, strength, and independence. Her motherly wisdom wasn't limited to her own kids, either, as her door was always open to anyone who needed a kind word or just wanted to hang out. Whether she was cooking a big meal, helping you with a health issue, or asking how your day was going, her empathy shined.

Margo will be remembered for her bright smile, her infectious laugh and her enthusiasm for adventure. She loved to travel, to take care of her beautiful lily pond, and to get immersed in crafting projects. Holidays were her favorite time of year, and her Christmas displays and collections are legendary.

Margo was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, her parents, Joyce and Morgan Nelson; and is survived by her children, Ricardo Eichwald (MariaTheresa), Maria Mager (Bryan), and Michelle Goitia (Michael); her sisters, Ann Houghtaling (Sonny), and Jane McLaughlin (Weldon); her grandchildren whom she adored: Maia, Esai, Jesse, Jennifer (Nate), Lawrence, Sarah and great-grandson, Kai.

We couldn't have asked for a better mom, grandmother, auntie and friend and we will miss Margo every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, February 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 5301 Ponderosa Avenue NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE â€" Albuquerque. Please visit our online guestbook for Margo at

I am sorry to hear of Margo's passing.
I was always happy to visit with her when we saw each other outside. She always had a smile and a happy outlook.
God bless you all. I know she is at peace now.
I will think of her with fondness.

Margo was a wonderful person. I grew up in Roswell with relatives who gathered frequently. Margo was a warm and endearing Nelson whom we saw frequently when we were flowing up, mainly in the 50s. As we all grew up and moved away from Roswell. Over the years we were able to visit ocasionally as my family gathered New Mexico for business meetings. She handled many life struggles valiantly and seemed to always maintain a positive attitude. We will treasure memories of her. Go home on Eagles Wings dear cousin. We will all meet again. Love to You and your family.
