Martinez, Jackie C.

Jackie Martinez, age 66, our family's strongest supporter and protector, passed away Monday, August 31, 2015 from complications of lung cancer. Jackie was born in Los Alamos in 1949 and graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1967. He continued to have a very close relationship with several of his high school buddies, the Los Alamos "Clan." Jackie had three beautiful daughters and a stepson that he was so very proud of and close to. In 1985 he married the love of his life and best friend, Jana. They had one of those very unique and special marriages one rarely sees.

Jackie was a proud US military veteran and enjoyed life to the fullest, but he especially liked being around family, golfing with his good buddy, Dan, fishing (particularly at Cooper's El Vado Ranch), hanging out every evening on the back porch, and the annual family reunion. Oh what fun we had listening to Jackie's stories from all the varied outings!

He is survived by his wife, Jana; daughters, Janelle "Bean", Marisa (Chad), Brian and Jennifer; grandchildren, Kypton, Caleb, Easton, Desi, Jake, Zach, and Wayne. He is also survived by brothers, Mike (Bernadette), John (Karlene), and Ricky (Susan); brother-in-law, Bill Huckaby. He leaves behind many very special family members and friends. Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Anita; parents-in-law, Buster and Patsy, and several other cherished family members.

A Memorial Service will be Friday September 4, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH â€" Lomas. After the service a gathering of family and friends are invited to the Cooperage at 7200 Lomas NE, Albuquerque. Interment will be held at a later date in Los Alamos. I just learned of Jackie´s passing yesterday 6/29/24 when I Googled his name. I had tried to find him on the internet before but was never successful until yesterday. I had last spoken to Jackie when he called me at my Santa Fe office to tell me that a mutual friend had died in the 1980s. I still remember our conversation and the sound of his voice.
We were friends and for a time roommates. We played city league basketball together with Wayne Avila who married Jackie´s oldest daughter.
I knew Jackie to be one of the nicest people that I have ever met and also one of the handsomest. Not surprisingly, women were instantly attracted to him.
After reading his obituary, it was obvious that he lived a life full of love for him and he for them.

Jana - I am so sorry for your loss, I used to work with Jackie at Pepsi-Cola over 25 years ago and have many great memories.....from playing basketball, golfing and just hanging out drinking a lot of cold beers with other co-workers. My condolences to you and your family, Jackie was a great guy that I had the pleasure to know and work with.

I cant believe your gone! Working with you and under your supervision was AWESOME!! You were one of if not the BEST supervisor that I have had at DOL. Jana and family please know how proud Jackie was of you all. There were never enough words when Jackie spoke of you. He will truly be missed!!
