Lucinda Sanchez
Lucinda Virginia (Romo) Sanchez, 91, passed away peacefully at the family home on Nov. 30, 2023 in Tularosa, NM.
Lucinda (known to most as Cindie) was born near Newkirk, NM, to Secundino and Antonia (Gutierrez) Romo.
Cindie graduated from Santa Rosa HS in 1950. Upon graduating she began her career in banking at the bank in Santa Rosa, then moved to Vaughn, then to Alamogordo with her husband, Stephen, who worked for Southern Pacific Railroad. She was the First Head Teller at Security Center, Security Bank and Trust, in Alamogordo until her retirement.
She married Stephen Sanchez Sr on June 7, 1951 and they were married for 58 years. In 2000, they moved from Alamogordo to Tularosa as empty nesters.
Cindie was active in Extension Services, NMSU, and enjoyed her volunteer work at the Otero County Fair for many years. She enjoyed making quilts for family and those in need including cancer patients. Her work was beautiful as she had an eye for color and was challenged by various designs! She was a renowned basket maker. She taught basketmaking and her baskets were much admired. Many were given to family and friends and displayed at the Otero County Fair where they won several blue ribbons for first place.
She was an active member of St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in Tularosa. She volunteered as a money counter for many years and also volunteered at St. Francis de Paula Thrift Store for years.
Survivors include her two daughters, Virginia Bacue (Ralph) of Thompsons Station, TN, Christina Padilla (Gregorio) of Silver City, NM; two sons, Stephen Sanchez Jr. (Tina) of Albuquerque, NM, David Andrew Sanchez Sr. of Tularosa, NM. Grandchildren include Patrick Bacue (Jessica) of Spring Hill, TN., Stephanie Bacue (fiancé Drew) of Wayne, PA, James Sanchez of California, Michael Sanchez of Dublin, Ireland, David Sanchez Jr (Brittany) of Midland, TX, Matthew Wright of McCamey, TX and Tamara Kinder (Kaden) of Abilene, TX. Great-grandchildren include Avalyn and Mason Sanchez.
She was preceded in death by father, Secundino Z. Romo; mother, Antonia G. Romo; her sister, Aurora Romero and 3 brothers, Salomon, Marcy and Tony Romo plus many relatives and friends, too many to mention by name.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church, 303 Encino, Tularosa, New Mexico 88352; or St Rose de Lima Catholic Church, 439 S 3rd Street, Santa Rosa, New Mexico 88435.
Services are as follows: December 13th, 2023 at St Frances de Paula Catholic Church, (303 Encino in Tularosa), rosary at 10 AM and mass at 10:30 AM.
December 14th, 2023 at St Rose de Lima Catholic Church (439 S 3rd St. in Santa Rosa, NM), rosary at 9 AM and mass at 10 AM, followed by inurnment at San Jose Cemetery in Santa Rosa, NM.
The Sanchez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of PCS Direct Cremation Service. Cremation will take place at PCS.
