What great memories I have of Dr. Walter Winslow in his dedication to our small behavioral health clinic in Socorro, New Mexico. For over fifteen years, Dr. Winslow would hold a clinic several days per month and share with us the tremendous changes in behavioral health which took place in new Mexico from the 1960s to 2005 when he retired from our clinic. He was the epitome of professionalism to both patients and behavioral health providers - and always included the clinical social workers as equal partners in health care.
As I continue behavioral health work in Utah, I always hold Dr. Winslow as an example of who we should be to those individuals who have need of care.

Walter Winslow was a standup sort of guy if there ever was one. He had a rare combination of principles and common sense.
He was my colleague, mentor and friend. He would get the job done when no one else seemed to have the skills or energy or
dedication. For at least twenty years people in Bernalillo County, Albuquerque, New Mexico would have had no free or low cost
services for mental illness or addictions were it not for the hard work and dedication of Dr. Walter Winslow. He worked quietly
and effectively and did not seem to seek glory or recognition for himself. His concern was to see that people regardless of
means got the help that they needed and that students and trainees in our field could learn to continue this work in a
professional and ethical manner.
