Ray Bergeron Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 in St. Mary Mother of the Church, for Ray Allen Bergeron, 82, who passed away on February 4, 2022 at his residence, surrounded by his family. Fr. Cedric Sonnier, Pastor of St. Mary Mother of the Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Mausoleum. Mr. Ray, a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Will C. Bergeron and the former Bernice Debarge. He graduated from Eunice High School in 1957 and attended USL. Ray was the owner of Lafayette Realty for 57 years earning numerous awards and recognitions, such as President of the Board of Realty in 1980 and Realtor of the Year in 1981. He was very active in the local, state and national levels for 45 years. Ray was the first recipient of the Lloyd Smith Award for his devotion of many years to the Realtor Profession, his outstanding achievements, and history of dedication & service. Ray was also the Director & Board Member for over 20 years with the LJYA Program. He coached little league baseball and football for many years, as well. Ray served in the LANG and U.S. Army, a devout member of the Fatima Men's Choir, and active member of the KoC - Fatima Chapter for 59 years. Ray enjoyed fishing with his friends, but his greatest hobby was barbecuing, gardening and growing citrus trees. A man of simple tasks and tastes, he will be dearly missed by all. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sophie Broussard Bergeron. He also leaves behind 5 children, Reggie Bergeron (Melissa), Dwayne Bergeron (Heather), Jennifer Bergeron Moore, Joddy Bergeron Cormier (John), Laura Bergeron McGrath (Brian); 11 grandchildren, Bryce Bergeron, Grant Bergeron, Max Bergeron, Michelle Bergeron, Nicole Vincent, Brandon Bergeron, Kelsey Michel, Tressie Montou, Thomas Moore, Garrett Moore, Danielle Cormier, and Gavin McGrath; and 4 great-grandchildren, Allie and Kate Vincent, Blake and Beau Bergeron. He was preceded in death by his father, Will C. Bergeron; mother, Bernice Debarge Bergeron; step-mother, Gertrude Doucet Bergeron; and his favorite aunt, Daphne Debarge Land. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Monday, February 7, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Monday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue Tuesday, February 8, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Pallbearers will be Gavin McGrath, Thomas Moore, Grant Bergeron, Brandon Bergeron, Brian McGrath, and Max Bergeron. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Moore, John Cormier, and Bryce Bergeron. The family would like to thank the nurses of Heart of Hospice, especially Skyler and Becca. A special thanks to Chaplain Patrick, who was a great comfort to Ray in his time of need. Personal condolences may be sent to the Bergeron family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com.
