A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3250 Strawberry Road. Brother Leonard Anderson will officiate. Pallbearers are John Stoll, Ryan Stoll, Tanner Stoll, Garrett Stoll, and Elijah Stoll, Aaron Darnell, Scott Allen.

Charlie was born Aug. 18, 1927, in Dillon, Mont., to Charles Sr. and Alice Stoll. He was drafted into the Army in 1947, and served in Korea, Japan and Hawaii. He married Josephine Evelyn Martin on Oct. 28th, 1954, in Dillon.
Charlie moved Josephine, five kids and Josephine's father to Alaska in early 1964. His sixth child was born in 1965 fulfilling a goal he had always wanted to have six kids. He went to work for the Alaska Railroad until his retirement in 1985. He then worked for Bell's Nursery untill he retired for good in 1993.
His family wrote: "Charlie enjoyed cooking for his family. We all remember waking up on Saturday mornings to the smell of breakfast and Hank Snow playing. The holidays were a favorite time for him. He always made sure they were filled with food, presents and family.
"He was an avid reader all his life; that was how he got his education. If he was sitting, there was a book in his hands.
"He enjoyed a good joke and Saturday morning cartoons, laughing harder than any of his kids. When he was a kid in Butte, Mont., the theater owner would let him in free because he laughed and slapped his leg so hard.
"He loved a good political debate, his view being the only right one. He knew the Constitution frontwards and backwards, and his grandkids took great delight in hearing grandpa on the radio."
His son Mike said, "He was a real cowboy, and he did things his own way."
His brother Ray said, "He was a lucky man, he had a wife he could live with and kids who loved him."
He was very proud this year when his granddaughter, Brynn Stoll, entered the Army and grandson, Ben Darnell, entered the Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine; brother, Ray Stoll of Dillon; sons Michael (Barbara), John (Kristen), and James; daughters, Rachel (Clifford Allen), Patricia (Chuch Perry), Johanna (Ben Darnell). 13 grandchildren, Ryan, Tanner, Brynn and Garrett Stoll, Kari and Scott Allen, Eli, Ben H., Matt and Aaron Darnell, Kylie Perry, Owen and Aidan Stoll; great-grandson Tyler Retherford-Stoll.

I am sorry to hear about the passing of Charlie. I worked for the B & B department on the railroad and spent a lot of that time in Whittier. I got to know Charlie there. He was alway friendly and helpful. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am grateful for the life of Uncle Charlie and echo the sentiments of my sister, Barbara Larsen-- we share the same memories of Uncle Charlie; the ones that meant the most. At the time of the Alaska earthquake, Charlie, my mom, Barbara and one of Charlie's kids were driving back from town (Charlie was driving) when the earthquake hit. His cool-headed handling of the situation was appreciated. Even though those of us who benefited by Uncle Charlie's unselfish act of kindness to pay our airfare to and from my sister's funeral in 1993 tried to repay him, he wouldn't let us. I know that Uncle Charlie knows now how deeply I appreciated his compassionate service to our family. My dad always said the Charlie was one of the best men he knew. I add my testimony to that. I am so grateful I was able to be with the family for Uncle Charlie's funeral to pay my respects to him. I love the Stoll family and all of you will be in my thoughts and prayers as you go forward in life from this point forward. Our Heavenly Father loves you and will be there to provide peace and comfort. God will be with you until we meet again and we all meet with Uncle Charlie again -- "Tho our rapture and bliss there's no song can exress, we will shout, we will sing o'er and o'er, as we greet with a kiss, and with joy we caress all our loved ones that passed on before ("Oh,What Songs of the Heart," Hymns of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, No. 2860.

I remember when Uncle charlie and family arrived in Anchorage to start another life. I know my Mom was happy that the decision was made, that with a helping hand the stoll family arrived. I remember the hearty laugh and the smile he always had on his face. I remember how he showed me how to make a cake with out bubbles in it. I remember all of us huddled together after the Alaskan Earthquake. I remember the joy it was to get to know my cousins. Uncle charlie was as kind hearted as anyone I have ever known. He paid for anyone needing to get to Anchorage for My sister Evelyn's funeral. I could never repay him for all his thoughtful deeds. I will miss him.
