David L. Mitchell

1939 - 2016

David Lawrence Mitchell was born on Oct. 4, 1939, in Grants Pass, Ore. On March 2, 2016, at 2:37 p.m., he quietly passed away, surrounded by his wife and children, in Hawaii. After graduating from high school, David "Mitch" Mitchell pursued a career in the United States Air Force. He served for 27 years, retiring as an E9 Chief Master Sergeant. His prestigious career included tours to Vietnam. He was highly decorated and served his country proudly. He then pursued a successful career as a business agent with the Teamsters. He negotiated and represented members with integrity and fairness. David enjoyed many things in life. He was an avid golfer. Many people remember him running up and down the court as a basketball official for many years. He enjoyed all sports both participating and spectating. His love for the outdoors never waned. He was an avid outdoorsman and a wonderful teacher to his loved ones. His legacy was left in so many ways. David Lawrence Mitchell will be hugely missed. He was a wonderful father. He leaves two daughters, Inge and Rebecca; three sons, Dennis, Kim and David. He was very proud of his grandchildren: Jake, Chad, Inge and Erika. As a role model for them he will be missed dearly but not forgotten. He leaves many loving grandchildren that will miss him dearly. His wife, Inge, was with him when he passed. They lived a happy and rewarding life together. They were soulmates and partners for life. They were married for more than 56 years. He will surely be waiting with a fishing pole and warm loving smile for his only true love. The funeral will be held be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 25, 2016, at Legacy Heritage Chapel at Angelus, 440 East Klatt Road in Anchorage, Alaska. A celebration of life will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Teamsters Hall, 520 East 34th Avenue. Arrangements entrusted to Legacy Funeral Homes.
