David Schlosser Obituary

David George Schlosser, age 71, died peacefully with his son Scott Schlosser by his side on May 2, 2019.
David was born on July 13, 1947, in Portland, Ore. He grew up in Hood River, Ore., and graduated high school there. He then attended the University of Portland, where he got his bachelor's degree in communications in 1969. He was on scholarship there as a basketball manager and he was the class president. He moved to Alaska after graduation, and eventually got into sales, specifically related to building materials. He worked in sales for nearly 50 years before his passing.
David loved his family, his friends, his church community, his work community, his cabin and his sports. He was known for his friendliness, his big smile and his infectious laughter.
David was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Jane Schlosser; and his parents, John and Frances Schlosser. He is survived by son, Mike Boese (Carrie); daughter, Brenda Boese (Ted); son, Chris Boese (Whitney); daughter, Wendy Sturdivant (Tai); son, Scott Schlosser; and 10 grandchildren.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at St. Benedict's Catholic Church at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the St. Jude or the Covenant House in his name.
Arrangements were made with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.

Oh wow! David (and his whole family) were my good friends when I was in high school. We went to church together and I spent a lot of time at their house. I hadn't seen or spoken to David or his family for many years, although I occasionally ran into the family in church in Hood River over the years. That being said, I always considered all of them dear friends. My heart breaks for the loss of his presence on this earth, but I'm sure the Lord has him in his loving arms. I so enjoyed reading about his life and friends in the previous comments, but suffice it to say there was a reason to have had him and his family in my young life all those years ago. I'm sure it was part of God's plan. It's never too late for condolences to his family. He will always be in my prayers.

I am so sorry to learn of this with an on line search. Dave and Jane were very dear friends and neighbors of ours for many years in Anchorage. My beloved Jerry died on Oct. 26, 2019 of leukemia. Dave and Jerry loved to tell stories together and drink beer. What a very good person Dave was, with a heart of gold! I am crying as I write this. I wish the entire family peace and the ability to cope with this terrible loss. I can honesty say that Dave was one of the kindest, most giving, sincerest man we have ever known. He will be missed by all.

I first met Dave when I was coaching his son Scott. We quickly became friends due to the mutual respect we had for each other. I was always in admiration of his easy going grace and his can do attitude to help the team. He never had a harsh word and was a great dad, the evidence of that is his son Scott.
The "peanut gallery" will miss you.

Never in my life have I ever met a kinder and more benevolent person that David Schlosser. He was one of kind, and I am the better person for his profound influence. We were high school friends, stayed in touch while in college and when I lived in Anchorage for several years and since. About 20 years ago, I compiled a pictorial history of our high school in Hood River Oregon. I asked the longtime basketball coach to name his 6 best players in the 20+ years he had coached at that school. BEFORE he named even one player, he named David as "the best sports manager he ever had or had ever heard about." When the manager is named BEFORE the players, you know David had to be great! In life, he was a shining star. I am proud to have called him a friend and colleague since 1962.

My sincere sympathy to the family. So sorry to hear about Dave.
Dave was instrumental in helping me land my first job right out of high school. He was forever helpful like that and always one of the friendliest people to know and to visit with. Memories of the many years enjoying The Great Alaska Shootout with Dave & friends will be cherished always!

First off, I'd like to offer my deepest condolences to all of Dave's Family. Dave was a legend and he will forever live on in the wonderful memories you cherish.
Dave was one of the kindest people I have had the privilege of knowing. With his infectious smile that was as big as life itself, you could always count on Dave to brighten up your day. He always lit up the room and was loved by everyone! I will truly miss him, but it brings me much happiness knowing that he is flying high with his new wings and he is at peace and watching over everyone!

Dave was my friend. We worked together in Alaska for over 30 years with him representing our company products directly to SBS. We traveled together throughout the state and no matter where we went, everyone knew and liked Dave. He was very infectious and a determined and principled person. Family was everything. Friendship was his middle name. I will miss him terribly. We shared a lot of life together and I learned valuable lessons from Dave. He was surrounded by a fantastic family and I know they all loved and respected him and Jane. Aloha.
