Emily Kaiser Obituary

Emily Kaiser, 89, passed away at her home in Anchorage, Alaska, on Oct. 24, 2014. A celebration of Emily's life will be held at O'Malley's on the Green, located at 3651 O'Malley Road in Anchorage, on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. Emily was born in The Bronx, N.Y., on March 3, 1925. She moved to Anchorage in 1967, then to Valdez, Alaska, from 1969-2002, and back to Anchorage in 2002. Emily was a longtime business owner of several local businesses in Anchorage and Valdez, including The Hobby Hut and Kellie's Floral, until she retired in 1995. She was affiliated with the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Elks Lodge, was a former chairwoman of the Salvation Army in Valdez and was a board member for the Valdez Senior Center. Emily loved knitting and crocheting and enjoyed making sweaters and hats for the babies born at Valdez Community Hospital. She also taught knitting classes at the Hobby Hut for years. Emily was a massive animal lover. Her greatest passion, by far, was being a grandmother. Her family wrote, "Emily will be most remembered for her strength, drive, honesty and compassion for others. She worked very hard and was always quick to help those in need. Her New York spunk will be greatly missed. After all, like Frank Sinatra said, she did it her way!" Survivors include her son, Fred Kaiser and his wife Sheila of Port Angeles, Wash.; daughter, Nancy Hensler and her husband Robert of Honolulu, Hawaii; daughter, Karen Dunlap of Anchorage; daughter, Lorie Roumagoux and husband Brent of Sterling, Alaska; grandson, Aaron Kaiser and his wife Susan of Anchorage; grandson, Brady Street of Houston, Texas; granddaughter, Tiffani Pearson and her husband Ivan of Highland Park, Ill.; granddaughter, Sidney Roumagoux of Sterling, Alaska; great-grandsons, Coleson and Evan Street of Houston, Texas; and her loving dog, Gidget Kaiser. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Bohlman; and husband, Gilbert Kaiser. In lieu of flowers, donations may be mailed to Alaska Humane Society, P.O. Box 240587, Anchorage, AK 99524. Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.

I will always remember Emily fondly. Spent lots of time at her house while growing up with Nancy. Her and Gil were awesome people. We shared the same birthdays and always enjoyed a good laugh on those days. Emily you will be missed.

My prayers are with Emily's family, she was a great neighbor and always so pleasant and helpful when you were looking for something at her store. My best memory of her is that she taught me to knit when she had a class at the Hobby Hut, I will always think of her when knitting.

Emily was the very best landlady. She would have tea and cookies and a puzzle on rent day. Emily shared her love and kindness with our family. We were sad to see her leave to be closer with her daughter. Cheers to you Emily. The Laudert family
