Gwyn Fitzpatrick Obituary

Gwyn U. Fitzpatrick, 89, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2012, in Anchorage, Alaska. She was attended to by loving family and friends.

Gwyn was born December 3, 1922, in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from Des Moines High School in 1940 and moved to Alaska 11 years later to begin her civil service career. While working in Fairbanks, Gwyn met Marvin Fitzpatrick. They celebrated their love with marriage on June 16, 1952. They both loved Alaska and created a wonderful life together.

Gwyn faithfully served a number of service organizations including Denali Chapter 16, O.E.S.; Matanuska Valley Chapter 14, O.E.S.; Waheed Court #81, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America; and Alaska Court #1, Order of the Amaranth. She served as Worthy Matron of Denali Chapter 16, O.E.S. in 1972. One of Gwyn's proudest moments was standing by her husband, Marvin, as he was installed as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons in February 2006.

Gwyn is survived by her husband, Marvin Fitzpatrick; step-daughter Anne Smith; grandchildren Lance Fitzpatrick, Angelica Johanson, Shawn Phillips, Shannon Ely, Shara English, and Dirk Fitzpatrick; and several great-grandchildren. Her life was further indicted by a multitude of close family friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Marie Pieart; and her son and daughter-in-law, Lennie Fitzpatrick and Sue Williams.

A viewing for family and friends will take place between 9-10am on Friday, August 24, 2012 at Legacy Funeral Homes, 1707 Bragaw St., Anchorage. This will be immediately followed by a reception celebrating her life, hosted by her sisters and brothers of her beloved service organizations.
