James Fleischhacker Obituary

James Matthew Fleischhacker, IUPAT, age 58, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 6, 2018, from natural causes.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Catherine (Dolzer) Fleischhacker; brothers, Frank and Dan; brother-in-law, Bill Heck; niece, Samantha Heck. he is survived by his loving brother, Greg (Karen); and sisters, Rita (Mark) Nupen, Joanne Heck, Kathy (Bob) Albert and Therese (Paul) McGibbon; sisters-in-law, Leanore and Kathy Flesichhacker and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, family and friends.
Jim's presence was larger than life! He helped many through his volunteer painting jobs and organizing fund raisers for those in need, including for ALS, the disease that took his brother, Dan. A Washington High graduate, he went on to TVI for printing and worked 10 years as a printer. He returned to TVI for painting and became a Union Local 61 painter for 10 years in St. Paul alongside his brother, Dan. He then heard the call of the wild and moved to Alaska to become a painter in Union Local 1959 for nine years.
Living in Alaska he made many new friends that became his new family. Together they enjoyed his love of fishing, hunting, biking and camping. His love of God and the beauty of his creation was a religion he lived daily. He will be deeply missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing and loving him.
"Love you. Miss you."
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Cathedral, Jan. 20, 2018, at 1 p.m. Lunch to follow. Memorials may be sent to your favorite charity.

Jim was one of the best friends I have ever had. He always made you feel welcome when you were around him and helped many people. He put together charity hunts for disabled people, painted countless jobs for free for good causes and made you laugh everytime you saw him. I am thankful that I had the chance to tell him, two days before he died, how awesome of a friend he was and how thankful I was to have him in my life. Just like that, he was gone three days later. It reminded me just how important it was to let go of the hate and ill feelings in our lives for the sake of joy and happiness in ourselves and our community. Jim was a great example of that and I look forward to performing music for his funeral for the joy and choose to be thankful for his life instead of feeling sad that he is gone. In the end, you can't take anything with you and you can leave behind an example for others to repeat that makes the world a happier place. I think Jim has done just that despite a less than perfect past. Thankyou for being my friend Jim.
