Fist met Ken at Lowery Air Force Base... we were in the same barracks for Technical school.. He was in the mechancical side- take apart/put back together;I was in the electrical/electronic side of the fuzing system... His classes finished before mine.. he left, and I didn't know where he was headed.
we both laned in Morroco//Noussaur Air Base...6th ADS (Air Depot Squarrdon)
a SAC Detachment; about 200 men..when I aerrived I was escorted to a hut; which would be my home for the next 18 months...so happens, Ken was in the same hut .. 4 men to a hut... It had 2 pot belly stove heaters in the middle of each half, heat was from fuel oil... a 55 gal drum outside... This was desert country, and during the winter months it was the rainie seasons and go quite cold and foggy ... fog was so bad, all autos had to have yellow headlights. at times it got so thick you could not see your hand, if you extended it into the fog. The unpaved areas became mud pools and if you stepped into an unpaved area, sink up to your knees or more... we played baseball and volleyball... he was first base; I was second base; one time a pro softball
show named "a King and his court" visited our base and we played against them... their pitcher threw at about 100MPH under hand... No one got a hit;
I managed to hit the ball squarly; home run distance, but foul ball left field;
I bat left handed.. I started swinging when he started his pitch..and that was the only way he could be hit... even my swing was late hitting the ball... it went foul but a very long and high hit... no one got on base... Ken hit a grounder and was thrown out at first. We were there together 1956 to 1958.. he left befor me and went to McDill AFB in FL; I went to Pease AFB in NH; discharged in 1960...I live in NY on Long Island, my home facing Peconic Bay; the water beween the east end forks of Long Island. I'm 87 will be 88 in Nov, the good loard willing. married -Carol; 4 children and 9 grandchildren.. some are working on Great Grand children, hope I'm around to see them. Rest in Peace Ken.
