Leonard Dome Obituary

Former resident Leonard Musson Dome, 95, died Oct. 13, 2009, in Vinita, Okla. After a valiant struggle, Leonard passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 23, 1914, the youngest child of three and the only son born to Leonard and Cora Mae Musson Dome, in Utica, Mo.

In 1939, he married Thelma Fields, daughter of Tommy and Lima Williams Fields, both of Estalla, Okla. They were married 53 years upon her death in 1992.

They had two children, Tommy Dome of Anchorage and Kathi Dome of Vinita. They also had two wonderful "grandgirls," Shannon Dome Boudreaux of Vancouver, Wash., and Adrian Laural Dome, who lives in Vinita.

In 1949, after serving in the Navy, Leonard and Thelma moved to Anchorage, where Leonard worked as a locomotive engineer for the Alaska Railroad until retiring in 1974. He had fond memories, developed many lifelong friends and had a repertoire of entertaining stories about his life in Alaska, which he enjoyed sharing with everyone.

In 1978, they moved to Vinita, where they lived their remaining years.

Leonard loved animals and gardening and was an avid reader of Louis L'Amour novels. He was a kind and generous man who was well liked and well loved by all who knew him.

He will be greatly missed.
