Michael Minor Obituary

Michael Harold "Mike" Minor, age 47, died November 20, 2009, at home. He was born Oct. 17, 1962, at Elmendorf AFB. He was a longtime resident of Alaska.

An appetizer potluck celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Flight Deck Lounge. Mike's ashes will be spread by his friends on the waters of Peters Creek near the Forks Roadhouse on a date to be announced. It will be held at the bridge where Mike spread his dad's ashes in 2007.

In 1974, Mike left Alaska to live with his grandmother and go to junior high in Arkansas. He then returned to Anchorage and graduated from West High. After graduation he left Alaska to pursue a career as an engine mechanic in Washington State for Jet Craft Boats.

Returning to Anchorage in the mid '80s, Mike worked for Auto Electric and then for many years at Everts Air Cargo as a ground equipment mechanic. He then worked for Elite Line Services until his retirement.

He loved to ride his Harley around Alaska with his friends. He also enjoyed fishing for king salmon whenever and wherever it was open season. He liked to travel and "the time spent with my friend Vonn in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve was the best vacation ever," he said.

Mike was a big-hearted guy and would not hesitate to help a friend in need, whether it was for a dollar, a tool, move their chair or remodel their house.

Mike liked to socialize at the Flight Deck Lounge and his presence will be sorely missed.

He leaves many, many friends in Alaska; also, a grandmother, Louise Minor; aunts, Harriet McCristian and Judy Roberts; many nieces and nephews, all of Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his dad, James "Jerky Jim" Minor.
