Rafaela Ramos

1930 - 2014

Anchorage resident Rafaela Ramos, 83, died Jul. 5th, 2014 at Regional Hospital. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for her at 12 p.m. on Friday July 11th at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Muldoon. Rafaela was born Oct. 24th, 1930 in Quebrallas, Puerto Rico. She moved from Puerto Rico to New York in 1947. She married her husband of 57 years, Luis H. Ramos, in New York in 1956. They had three sons Luis, Jose, and Geraldo Tito.' She moved to Alaska with her family in 1958.They lived here until 1963 then they moved throughout the lower-48 as her husband was stationed during his years in the Air Force. She lovingly and faithfully took care of her three sons while her husband was deployed during the Vietnam War for 18 months. During that time she promised The Lord that if He brought her husband home safely, she would attend daily mass every day until she could no longer. She kept true to that promise attending mass every day until October 15th, 2012. Her husband was brought home safely and they returned to Anchorage in 1970 and have lived in the same home ever since. Rafaela's family remembers her as a feisty and fiery woman who always took care of her family, never let a stranger go hungry, and always gave of what she had for The Lord. She is survived by her husband, Luis; her two sons; Luis and Jose; and her three granddaughters, Tatiana, Marisa, and Karina. Her death was preceded by all of her siblings and both of her parents, and her youngest son, Tito.
