Richard Mack

Lifelong Alaskan, our dear precious husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Richard Henry Mack, 79, was graciously lovingly lifted to be with the Lord he loved on August 8, 2012 at home in Anchorage, following a long battle with cancer.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held 6:00 p.m., Monday, August 13, 2012 at the Sand Lake Baptist Church, 7434 Jewel Lake Road in Anchorage. Pastors Roger Holmberg & Dave Kenny will officiate. Additional services will be held at the King Cove Chapel with Pastor Earl Barnett officiating and Richard will be laid to rest at the King Cove Cemetery at a later date.

Richard was born August 18, 1932 to Paul & Fannie (Ferguson) Mack in King Cove, Alaska. He attended school until the 8th grade and at a young age became a fisherman. Richard married Annie Endresen on June 13, 1952. He was a Captain on the Swinomish, Julie J. and Pafco 6 boats and had owned and operated the Point Helen, Janice and West Cape boats. Richard had also worked as a salmon and crab fisherman on many other boats. He ran his own trucking business in King Cove from 1974 to 2011, which was Mack Trucking. Richard served as city clerk and on the school board in King Cove.

Richard liked to cook for family and friends taking his specialties to potlucks. He made a lot of lovely birthday cakes for his kids and grandkids. Richard made the BEST smoked salmon around, canning salmon every fall and going hunting. Richard also played harmonica, guitar and sang. Richard played a lot of practical jokes on his grandchildren which kept us all laughing. His favorite evening games were dominoes and Skip-Bo. He served faithfully at the King Cove Chapel and at the Grace Baptist Church in Anchorage. Richard's generosity towards family and friends was well known and no one was a stranger to him. He was named Elder of the Year in 2004 by the Aleut Corporation and became an Honored Elder in 2011 by the Aleutian Pribilof Island Association.
