Shawna Barnes Obituary

Shawna Nicole Barnes, 46, of Willow, Alaska, died peacefully on Nov. 26, 2018. She was called home after a very long battle with ovarian cancer, but her larger-than-life persona and trademark stubbornness will never be forgotten.
She was born on Feb. 10, 1972, in Cheyenne, Wyo., the daughter of Steven and Mary Saxton, the younger sister of John Saxton.
Shawna is survived by her husband; her daughter, Jessie Nicole Hegel; a son, Riley Joseph Hegel; her granddaughter, Lillian Nicole Haddock; her niece, Savannah DeWaele; as well as many stepdaughters, stepsons and grandchildren.
Before passing Shawna forged a trail of laughter, generosity, compassion and wisdom. Shawna married the love of her life, Larry Barnes, on Dec. 31, 2012; their marriage was something most people dream of, but never find.
Famously opinionated and short-tempered, she always told you the truth, even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear. She was generous to a fault, a pussy cat at heart, and yet she sugar-coated absolutely nothing.
She was a dedicated and hard worker. She worked at Miller's Market for many years; she loved her job especially enjoying its fast-paced environment.
Despite her challenges and the obstacles life presented her with, Shawna never lost faith. Her hope and perseverance were nothing short of remarkable. She was an inspiration to all that knew her.
Family and friends will gather at St. Christopher Catholic Church, Mile 67 South Parks Highway, on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at 1 p.m., for Shawna's celebration of life.
