Stuart Huettl Obituary

Longtime Anchorage, Alaska resident Stuart Huettl passed away peacefully at home in his easy chair watching his morning TV shows. He was born in Bend, Ore., to George and Betty Huettl.
Stuart joined the Navy in 1957, serving four years in the Construction Battalion, with many of those in Okinawa, Japan.
While living in Portland, Ore., he met and married his wife of 54 years, Sonja Hjelseth. After several years of owning Shell gas stations in Portland, he decided to go with two buddies to Alaska. After only one week, he called Sonja and said to sell the business and bring the boys to Anchorage to live. Of course, this was in the summer. He was a mechanic working at different auto repair shops until he bought the Scotti Muffler shop in Eagle River, Alaska, which he owned and operated for many years. His passion was in restoring old Studebaker trucks which he showed off at annual car shows and parades. Stuart also loved camping with family and friends and going hunting and traveling in an RV with Sonja. Together they had two awesome boys: David and Matthew. Stuart will always be remembered by his "stories" he would tell, and all who knew him would agree that he had lots.
Stuart is survived by his wife, Sonja; his sons, David and Matthew; daughter-in-law, Cathy Huettl; grandson, Evan Huettl; brother, Melvin Huettl; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and longtime close friend (like son), Chris Dellsite. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Betty Huettl; and his sister, Grace Lehto.
A "Celebration of Life" is planned for March 2, 2019, at Fox Hollow Chalet, from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to "Disabled Veterans."
Arrangements are with Cremation Society of Alaska, www.alaskacremation.com.
