Va'Asili'Ifiti Maiava

Barrow resident Va'asili'ifiti Sasita Maiava, 49, died Jan. 7, 2011, at the Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage.

He was born March 25, 1961, in Vava', Lotofaga, Samoa, and attended Ulimasao College there before coming to Alaska in November 1993. Mr. Maiava made his home in Anchorage and Barrow and worked for Hageland/Era Aviation in Barrow from 1997 until the time of his death.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church. A funeral will be at noon Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Fred Bugarin officiating. Pallbearers are Jonah Mose, Aniseko Unutoa, Solomona Unutoa, Leu Unutoa, Iosua Sasita, and Victor Unutoa. Burial will be in the Anchorage Memorial Park cemetery this spring. Memorial bequests are being referred to St. Anthony Catholic Church, 825 S. Klevin St., Anchorage, 99508.

Mr. Maiava is survived by his wife, Susana Tofa Maiava, of Anchorage; son and daughter-in-law, Jonah and Cassandra Mose of Anchorage; daughter and son-in-law, Filisita Folole and Alona Filipo of Anchorage and Samoa; daughters, Anastacia Suitina Maiava and Anamarie Sefine Maiava, both of Anchorage; grandson, Justice Maiava; and granddaughters, Brooklyn, Lelei and Suena Mose, all of Anchorage; brothers and sisters-in-law: Paulo Sasita, Solomona and Fulu'ula Sasita, Iosua and Asuone Sasita, Simona and Pemita Sasita, Peni Fosi, and Fosi and Talameli Fosi, all of Samoa, and Toe and Faaseseloto Poe of Barrow, Viliamu and Vineta Pili, and Eteuati and Helen Pili, Iulai and Leah Pili, Billy and Heather Pili, and Toetasi and Elaine Fosi, all of Anchorage, and Elitisone and Seei Pili of Barrow; sisters and brothers-in-law: Tulima and Evile Tago of Samoa, Ailepata and Mata'aga Unutoa,Faafiuloto and Kolio Aukusitino, Sinapioa Fosi, Lealofa and Seke Iusi of Anchorage, Lusila and Samisoni Fotukava of Anchorage and Barrow, Felila and Mesui Tuai, Ana and Setu Manu, and Mulugaveve and Mailagi Tuifua of Barrow, Folaolela and Tonga Tea of Juneau, and Lusia Fosi of Seattle.
