Yong Shin Obituary

Yong Hwa Shin, 64, of Anchorage, died April 20, 2010, at Providence Alaska Medical Center, after a battle with colon cancer.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, at St. Andrew Kim Parish, 7206 Lake Otis Parkway.

Born Jan. 11, 1946, in Taegu, Korea, Yong was the son of Kapshik and Sang Shin. Yong moved to Alaska in 1978, and was the owner of Dami Japanese Restaurant and the Econo Inn. He was past president of the Korean Chamber of Commerce, Korean Golf Association, and Korean Lion's Club.

His family said: "He will not only be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather but also as a prominent advocate of the Korean Anchorage community. He will never be forgotten."

Yong is survived by his wife, Myong Sun Shin; daughters, Mi Kyong (Won-Sub), Mi Jeong (John), and Jennifer; granddaughter, Ella; and grandsons, Aidan and Cooper.

To all the Shin family my most sincere condolences on your loss. I had only Met Yong on a couple of occasions but he always had a welcoming hand extended and a smile on his face, All the family are in my prayers
