Zachary Campbell Obituary

Zachary Allen Campbell, 18, passed away of injuries sustained by a fall from Skyscraper Ridge in Hatcher Pass in Alaska on Aug. 3, 2018.
He was born on Feb. 1, 2000 in Centralia, Wash., and has lived in the Valley since 2003. He graduated from Mat-Su Career and Tech High School in May 2018. Zac ran cross-country, completed the Mat-Su Fire Department's Explorers program and was an avid outdoorsman, especially relishing hiking and snowboarding.
His mother shares that Zachary had a calm spirit that drew friends to him and a knack for quieting crying babies. His father affirms that Zachary was "Every father's dream: tall, strong, compassionate; a good man." Friends agree, also describing Zac's goofy smile and readiness to spend time with people both on outdoor adventures and in long conversations. Teachers remarked on his leadership skills bubbling beneath lively socializing. He had a quirky sense of humor, once eating an entire banana, peel and all, on a casual challenge, much to the merriment of the family's dinner guests.
Zachary did not tiptoe through life, but "skidded through broadside in a cloud of smoke," loudly proclaiming the wonderment of the ride. He lived a life worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing and increasing in his knowledge.
He is survived by his parents, Casey and Tonya; his sisters, Alyssa Petrina, Mackenzie, Sara, and Regan; his brother Dylan; and a host of heartbroken family and friends. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lavonne Boyd and James Campbell.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at 12 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1201 East Bogard Road in Wasilla, Alaska. Public viewing will be held at 11 a.m., one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Zachary Allen Campbell Mat-Su Fireman's Training Fund at MVCU.

Dear Campbell Family: No words can be said or written that will reduce or remove the pain, nor can we relate to the loss you are experiencing, having lost your son at such a young age. We can however support your grieving by simply letting you know that your young man seemed to have made an immensely impressive footprint on the other young adults and adolescents of our parish and community. Though we did not know him personally, we have a good sense of the son and friend he was. Our heartfelt condolences to you all. God will heal your hearts in time until you gather together as a family once again in His heavenly host in paradise.

May the God of all hope be with the family and give you peace.

Dear Campbell family,
Your son was my favorite surprise guest, sometimes visiting if he was running errands or siblings around town. His manners were impeccable, his wit irrepressible, and his ease in a crowd was a testament to a lifetime of attentive love poured into his very spirit. You gave him all of this and more multiplied in the lives of the little ones who admired him and family friends who enjoyed his company. The shock of your loss has us all reeling. We love you and pray that God will grant you moments of relief ... knowledge of his eternal peace... comfort amidst the anguish.

We are sorry for the loss you have experienced and wish your family our sincere condolences. Henry and Taff would spend time talking and running the track and trails with Zac. It is the support of family and friends, stories and experiences shared, most of all the time that will give much healing. Our condolences

Tonya and Casey and family,
Marisa and I offer our sincere condolences on Zach's passing. He was a ray of bright sunshine in the classroom at OLV and out, and it was a gift we will always treasure to have called him our friend. We wish we were able to attend his services, but circumstances beyond our control prevent us from being there. However, we will be there in thoughts and prayer. I know that words cannot express how profound your loss and how much we truly understand what you are going through right now. Circumstances in our lives are such that we can somewhat relate to your pain. We all were blessed to know and have Zach in our lives. We will be in touch.
