Fernando Melón Obituary

In the loving arms of our God, our beloved father and grandfather Fernando "Chino" Melòn will always be remembered in our hearts and our prayers.
Monday, March 22, 2010, surrounded by his loving family, Chino, 84, of Alamogordo, passed away at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center. He was born March 29, 1925, in Alamogordo to Cornelio and Maria Melon. He united in marriage to Helen Torres on Aug. 15, 1948, in Alamogordo.
Chino served as a Seabee during World War II in the United States Navy in the Pacific campaign. Chino was recruited for his civilian construction skills that were placed within the Navy's Civilian Engineering Corps.
After the war, Chino returned to Alamogordo to take a job as a carpenter at Holloman Air Force Base, where he spent a good majority of his career supporting his loving family until he retired.
Chino's hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping, playing his guitar, roping, listening to music and spending time at casinos.
He is survived by his wife of 61 and a half years, Helen; his daughter Gloria and husband, Fermin Trujillo; his two sons, Steve/Mary Melòn and Vince/Lisa Melòn; his four brothers, Louis, Manuel, Ben and Edward Malone; his grandchildren Petrina/Domonic Bowcutt, Steven, Nikki, Nando, Melony, Mackinzie, Stephanie, Jarret and Gabriela; and his great-grandchildren Allex (Changa), Taren, Kaden, Hunter, Kyndel and Colby.
We, the Melòn family, would like to take this time and with a heartfelt embrace thank each and every one of you for all your prayers, floral, food offerings and especially your presence with us during this difficult time.
Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Linda Villabisencio.
Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10 a.m. at the church with Father Bryant Hausfeld, O.F.M., as celebrant.
Inurnment will follow at the St. Jude Columbarium.
The Melòn family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
