A. J. Nobles

A. J. Nobles, 94, passed away Tuesday, April 09, 2024 at his home.

His funeral service will be at 2 PM on Friday, April 12, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Albany with interment to follow at Ellaville Cemetery, Ellaville, GA. The Rev. Dr. Butch Knight will officiate. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church prior to the service beginning at 1 PM.

Mr. Nobles was born in Wilcox County, GA on November 8, 1929 and moved to Albany when he was young. He attended Albany High School and started working at the Albany Herald Publishing Co. when he was very young. He carried a paper route and working part time in the mail room and full time in the circulation department. He became circulation director and retired from the Albany Herald in 1992 after 51 years.

Mr. Nobles was preceded in death by his parents, Lola Calhoun Nobles and Rome Nobles, a sister, Bernice Nobles Hall, and his grandparents to who raised him after his parents died.

Mr. Nobles was a member of First Baptist Church of Albany where he served as a deacon, helped build chair ramps and delivered meals to the homebound. He served on the advisory board of Hospice and was vice president of the board of the Lord's Pantry. He was a member and past president of the Exchange Club of Albany and was elected Exchangite of the Year and received the Golden Deeds Award. He loved to fish and hunt and work in his backyard garden.

He is survived by his wife: Martha Nobles, Albany; a daughter: Diane Nobles Webb (Billy), Lee County; two sons: Terry Nobles and Dennis Nobles, both of Albany; grandsons: Chris Webb (Cindy), Smiths Station, AL and Jeff Webb (April), Bishop, GA; great grandchildren: Carley, Lillian, Bryce Webb, Watkinsville, GA, Walker Webb, Smiths Station, AL; a nephew: Billy Hall, Albany.
