Wayne Ewy Obituary

Dr. Wayne Ewy died May 4, 2025 from complications after heart surgery.
Born in Lawrence, Kansas on 12/04/43, he moved with his family to St. Paul, MN when his father was discharged from the Navy.
Survived by Jane Elizabeth, his loving wife of 55 years; sons, Benjamin (Julie) and Nicholas (Katya) and five grandsons, Thomas, Alexander, Harrison, Andrew and Miles; sisters, Jeanne Ewy, Beth Ewy (Dr. David Penetar), Gayle Ewy (Jeff Grimm); sister-in- laws Jean Bundt (wife's twin sister and frequent traveling companion) and Dr. Jo Matson (Don Jorovsky); brother-in-law, Dr. Steven Matson (Heidi Matson); and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved labradoodle dog, Szabi, who was his loyal companion and brought him great joy.
He attended St. Paul Murray High School where he lettered in swimming, cross-country and tennis. He was active in the Boy Scouts program, earning the Eagle Scout rank. He attended Hamline University in St. Paul, MN on a full academic scholarship, then received a full academic scholarship in the MD/PhD program at the University of Minnesota, subsequently receiving a PhD in Biostatistics at the age of 25. He moved to Palo Alto, CA for post-doctoral work on the well-received Hospital Post-Surgical Morbidity Study conducted through the Stanford University Medical School.
In 1977, he moved with his family to Ann Arbor, MI to work in the Biostatistics Department at Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical R&D, where he remained for over 35 years, retiring as a Senior Director under Pfizer Global R&D. He assisted with work on Lipitor, Neurontin, Lyrica and other pipeline drugs.
Wayne enjoyed taking his sons to their many music and sporting events throughout their childhood. He enjoyed gardening (created a beautiful pond and water fall in the family backyard), running, tennis, golf and volleyball, and he was involved in movie, theater and dinner groups.
He and Jane traveled the world, exploring Japan, China, Africa, Russia, Cuba, Peru (included a journey down the Amazon River), Scandinavia and numerous other European and Asian locations. They especially enjoyed their annual trip to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico where they explored the numerous Mayan and indigenous ruins.
In his later years, Wayne enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, attending many of their sporting, music and academic events.
A memorial service will be planned in the future.

So many memories of Wayne, in my Ann Arbor days! From movie groups, to visits upnorth to help us build more space, to many social events, and to funny discussions about O-Rings! Love you, Wayne!
