Stephanie Lynn Thornton Obituary

Stephanie Lynn Reed Thornton, age 64, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on February 8, 2025, at UAB Saint Vincents Hospital in Birmingham, AL. She was born on November 19, 1960 in Anniston, AL to Mr. John Allen Reed Sr., and Mrs. Mary Louise (Thompson) Reed. She married her high school sweetheart, Mr. Robert Lewis Thornton on April 18, 1980; this union lasted 44 years and from this union they had two loving sons, Brandon and Cory. Stephanie was a graduate of Anniston High School, Anniston, AL, Class of 1979 and LaGrange College, LaGrange, GA., where she graduated with a degree in Religion & Philosophy and a degree in Psychology. Stephanie was also responsible for the organizing and chartering of the Theta Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, on the campus of Lagrange College, LaGrange, GA., in 1996. Stephanie had a passion for helping others. She was a Chaplains Assistant, volunteered with the RMC Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) and with the Steel Magnolias Breast Cancer Support Group, all at Regional Medical Center, Anniston, AL. She was an avid reader and was in the process of writing a book, an exceptional artist, loved to crochet and knit, collected Monopoly games and was a lover of Harry Potter and anything Disney. Her memory of being a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend will be forever cherished by her sons: Brandon L. (Jennifer) Thornton and Cory L. Thornton (partner - Amber Roberts); Four very loved and adored grandchildren: Lily Mae Thornton, Alexander Lewis Thornton, Elsie Louise Thornton and Toddler Ryan Reed Thornton; siblings: John A. (Valerie) Reed, Sharon R. (Edward) Heath, Timothy A. (Jemelle) Simmons; Rinique Simmons; God Sister Vanessa (Dennis) Paradeis; nephews: Anthony Wilson, Kenneth A. (Miranda) Heath, Rashad B. Simmons, John A. (Keisha) Reed III, Tamaree J. Simmons, Gerald Murphy Jr., and Tristan Simmons; nieces: Veronica Monique Heath, Shamiria Lindsey, Adrienne M. Reed, Taylor J. Simmons and Erin N. Simmons; very special great nephews and a great niece: Dahntre' "Tre" A. Boyd, Jayden L. Heath and Autumn M. Jenkins, a special cousin Pamela Reeves, four best friends Beverly C. Rodgers. Del Mesha Swain, Cassandra Peoples Thomas and Verna Seals, and numerous other family and friends. Stephanie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lewis Thornton, parents John Allen Reed Sr. and Mary Louise Reed; sister Flora Dianne Wilson; brother Derelle Simmons and nephew Ketrit Ladon Pilot. She truly leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth and kindness. A Memorial Service celebrating Stephanie's life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 12 noon, at Seventeenth Street Baptist Church, Anniston, AL.

One of the sweetest people I have ever known. She loved her friends and family so much she is missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her memory will always be a blessing.
