Elizabeth Marino Obituary

(Asbury Park Press)

ELIZABETH MARINO
AGE: 79 LAKEWOOD
Elizabeth Marino, 79, of Lakewood, NJ, died peacefully on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, under hospice care at Ocean Medical Center. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY on Jan. 2, 1931, she moved to Lakewood 15 years ago to be near her only beloved daughter, Patricia LaRaia, and her husband, John LaRaia, of Brick NJ, and loving grandchildren,
Renee', her fiance John
Peterson, Michelle, her husband Andrew Whiting, greatgrandson Emmitt, and Jason LaRaia. She was a loving and devoted wife of Frank for 54 years. She was a homemaker who dedicated her life to her husband and daughter. Elizabeth and her husband enjoyed going to Atlantic City, Monmouth Racetrack and their new favorite place was Favorites in Toms River. Her favorite past time was cooking, as she cooked with "love". She also enjoyed visiting her daughter and her family, going to lunch, watching her grandson play the drums and baseball, watching her granddaughters play basketball and soccer, and basically just enjoyed watching them grow up. She was very proud of them. She was also a very proud "great" grandma to little Emmitt. She loved him with all her heart and we are so happy that she got to enjoy him even if it was for a short time.
Elizabeth is also survived by her sister, Angela, her husband, Isadore Callarota, of Mineola, NY, their children and grandchildren; her brother Anthony, his wife, Patricia Martin, of Highland Mills, NY, their children and grandchildren; her brother Johnny Martin of Williston Park, NY, and his children. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles and cousins, whom she loved very much.
She was truly the strong one in the family and she will be greatly missed by all whose life she has touched. She was also referred by many as "cool".
Visitation is Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Road, Brick, NJ, 08723. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 10 a.m. at St. Dominic's Church, Brick, NJ.

My Aunt Betty was my favorite Aunt and Godmother.
I remember her smile, her laugh, her cooking, her empathy, her devotion, her humility, her strength, her independence, her kindness; and mostly I remember how she made me feel special.

Aunt Betty was a wonderful part of my childhood, I'm lucky to have had such a great Aunt. We always laughed when we were together. I felt her love and miss her dearly!

Here are the memories I will keep forever about my Aunt Betty--
going to the track, playing cards, your dog Candy, living in Brooklyn and visiting, dunkin donuts/mister donut, how you loved animals (even our dog pebbles), and that you were always so loving to me. My mom says that Aunt Betty was like her mother....Enough said. We love and miss you.

Gramma...I still cannot believe you're gone, I think about you every day and miss you so much. I know you're still with us in spirit, I just wish I could see you again, hear your voice, eat your cooking, play another card game...anything. I wish Emmitt could grow up with you in his life and remember what a remarkable woman you were. I wish you were still around to be a Great Grandma of 2. I wish you could be there to watch Renee walk down the aisle. I wish you could even be around to watch little Jason get married. There's a lot of things I wish, but I do know that this is life and we will eventually be together again. I know you're watching down on us every day smiling. You never realize how much you love and care for someone until they are gone...I didn't think it'd be this hard not having you around. I love you and miss you so much.....You were the best! Your grand daugther, Michelle

my memories of Betty go back over 30 years. Her coolness and confidence. I remember how strict she was and yet loving . Going to Rockaway and having her laugh at us as we had a mud fight, Pat. Taking our moms out in Manhattan and how happy they both were. She will be missed.
