Florence E. Heffernan

AGE: 92 • Whiting

Florence E. Heffernan, 92, of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2011. She was born June 9, 1918 to Olof and Emilia Carlson and raised in Seaside Park. She attended Toms River High School. Florence married Martin A. Heffernan, where they founded and operated Heffernan Real Estate and The Duggan House in Seaside Heights from 1939 to 1977. Florence was the first female member admitted to the Ocean County Board of Realtors in 1951. After retiring, they moved to Seaford, Delaware and she later moved back to New Jersey.

She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Martin of 52 years, in 1992. She is survived by her three loving children, Sandy Lee Wines and her husband Charles of Spring Lake Heights, Michael Heffernan of Seaside Heights, and Robert Heffernan and his wife Joanne of Pelican Island. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Lisa Tonjes Ledo of Holmdel, Bobbie Maguire of Neptune, Ryan Heffernan of Henderson, Nev., Justin Heffernan of Seaside Heights, and Tyler Heffernan of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., as well as six great-grandchildren. A private family service was conducted in accordance with her wishes.
