Ludwig C. Bilow III

AGE: 80 •

Ludwig C. Bilow III, 80, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed peacefully surrounded by family at Riverview Medical Center on Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Lud was born in Jamaica Queens, New York City. He lived in Staten Island for many years, graduated from Staten Island Academy, and earned a BA from Wagner College. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in the infantry stationed at Fort Dix, Fort Devons, Massachusetts and one year in Kelfavik, Iceland.

Ludwig was in the package liquor and bar business with six stores, headquartered at Bilow Liquors, Monmouth Street, Red Bank. He also owned and operated TCBY yogurt stores, and had apartments on Monmouth Street, Red Bank. He was a proud member of the "Losers Club", the 200 Club, and the American Legion.

Ludiwg is predeceased by his son Ludwig C. Bilow IV and parents Ludwig C. II and Elizabeth Bilow. Surviving are his loving wife of 32 years MaryLyn Bilow of Long Branch, NJ; sister Barbara DiRusso and her husband Sal of Hilton Head, SC, niece Beth, and nephews Chris and Greg; son Dr. Bruce Bilow, wife Kate and their children Michael, Jason, Ryan, Matt, and Ella of Oceanport, NJ; daughter Susan Bailey, husband James and children Annie and Barbara of Ypsilanti, MI; step children Leslie Cady of San Diego, CA; Jeanine Cumiskey, husband Tom and their children Rachel and Morgan of Chesterfield, VA; Jeff Cady, wife Chrys and children CJ and Jennifer of Middletown,NJ; Jim Cady, wife Stephanie and their children Alex, Christian and Abigail of Fair Haven, NJ.

Ludwig touched many lives with his generosity, his playful spirit, and his love of family and friends. He will always be remembered for the twinkle in his eye and his contagious laugh. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

All arrangements are private and have been entrusted to John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, N.J. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Ludwig's memory to the American Cancer Society. A celebration of Ludwig's life will be held at a later date.
