Nicholas Holmes Obituary
AGE: 25 • Lacey Township
Nicholas Colby Holmes, born July 22, 1985, has recently passed away after a tragic boating accident in the Barnegat Bay, NJ. Formerly of Morehead City, NC and Lacey Township, NJ. He is survived by his father and mother, CWO Ken and Patti Holmes, brothers BM2 Christopher and Jonathan Holmes. He was a Machinery Technician first class in the U.S. Coast Guard stationed at Air Station Atlantic City. He will be missed dearly; the amount of lives he touched in his short life greatly exceeds the amount of lives a normal person will touch in their lifetime.
A gathering will be held on Saturday July 2, 2011 from 2:00 pm until time of services at 4:00 pm at the Riggs Funeral Home, 130 North Rt. 9, Forked River, NJ 08731. A reception shall follow the service at 6pm at Captains Inn, 304 East Lacey Road, Forked River, all are welcome. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Coast Guard Mutual Assistance, US Coast Guard Stop 7180, 4200 Wilson Blvd, Suite 610, Arlington, VA 20598-7180.

i didnt know your son, but i seen the story on coast guard news,i am a mother with a son in the coast guard. my heart goes out to you and your family.he will always be with you forever in your memories,dreams, and hearts.

To the Holmes family, Nick and I are so very sorry for the loss of your son. While I hadn't had the privilege of meeting your son,Nick spoke very highly of him and I can tell you his heart is breaking having lost another member of his crew and our "CG family" here in NJ. RIP Nik! To the Holmes Family, Nik was a good person with a wonderful heart who had a contagious smile. I knew him throughout middle and high school as well did my twin brother. They played soccer together and had a smililar love for trucks ;) my prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Patty Ken Chris and John, I am so sorry for your loss. Nick was truly a great person and was liked so much by all. only a short time ago I saw Nick almost every day while we were both living in the same bilding in Bayvill.....Not to mention all the good memories we had on Winthrop Dr. in our pool and just hanging out....I remember the day all of you moved in and the it seam's like just yesterday we sat and had coffee. Nick will be missed by all and my heart go's out to all of you!!

I am sorry I don't know you, but from the list of condolences I know Nicholas was a super nice guy and brought love and happiness to many who knew him. I would like to leave you with a scripture...

To the mother of Nicholas.My name is Patricia Engrassia,my son Officer Jason Marles of the Ocean Gate Police Dept passed away Thanksgiving Day,2010.I want to express my deepest sympathy to you and your family!There is no greater loss than the loss of a child,as I sit here on a holiday weekend,when everyone is having a good time,and my heart is breaking over the loss of my beautiful son.I belong to a wonderful support group called Mother Of Angels we meet the first 3 Tuesdays of the month.This group is strictly for moms only.We are the only ones that can share the same pain.At some point if you need to come join us,and this group is what keeps me going,I will be happy to speak to you and let you know where we meet.i have followed your sons story,and just like my son such a senseless passing.My son was the police officer that just got off of a drunk driving shift,and a drunk driver slammed into his jeep on the Garden State Parkway.Your life will never be the same,but I pray for you and your family,and if the time comes you would like to meet please feel free to contact me at [email protected].

I am so sorry to hear of the tragic loss of your son. I did not know him, but saw the post on the FB Coast Guard Page tonight. I can only imagine the pain and the grief you are feeling. You can be proud he was serving his country! i worked with nick for about two years just before he joined the coast gaurd. there aren't many people out there as nice as he was. never a bad thing to say about anyone and always fun to be around. to say he will be missed is an understatement.
