AGE: 77 • Forked River

Robert George Conklin, 77 years old and a resident of Forked River, NJ, died on March 21 after a long illness. Born on September 7, 1938 in Elizabeth, NJ to George Elmer Conklin and Christine Bartley Conklin, Bob grew up in North Plainfield before moving to East Windsor and then retiring to Forked River.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Conklin, his son Robert Scott Conklin, his daughter Kathryn Elizabeth Conklin, his two step-sons George and Richard Warshany, two grandchildren Jonathan Conklin (deceased) and Kaitlyn Pantaleone, two sisters Janet Lynd of Virginia and Maybelle Groff of Oregon and their families, as well as his former wife Joyce Conklin of Whiting.

He graduated from North Plainfield High School, class of 1956, attended Cornell University as a Merit Scholar, and graduated from New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Newark in 1962 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and later a Masters Degree also from NJIT. As a long-time resident of East Windsor, NJ Bob spent 35 years working for RCA Astro Electronics, GE, Martin Marietta and Lockheed Martin working on government contracts and later writing software for weather and space satellites. He served as an Elder for the Hightstown Presbyterian Church and was a charter member of the East Windsor Township Volunteer Fire Co, No 1.

Upon retirement, Bob moved to Forked River, NJ where he was active in his community of Pheasant Run, the Forked River Presbyterian Church and he enjoyed photography and sailing on the Barnegat Bay.

A memorial service will be held for Bob at the Forked River Presbyterian Church on May 10 at 5 pm. Donations on Robert Conklin's behalf can be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) or the Forked River Presbyterian Church.
