Robert Rubenstein, of New Brunswick, NJ died Monday evening, June 21, 2010 in the Francis E. Parker Home, New Brunswick. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Rubenstein had been a resident of Highland Park and Edison before moving to New Brunswick 10 years ago. He was the owner and Operator of Clark Auto Parts, Clark, NJ for over 25 years before retiring some 20 years ago. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 47th Infantry Division. Mr. Rubenstein was a Past President of the NJ Automotive Association, and had been a volunteer at the JFK Medical Center Pharmacy and the Parker Home for many years. He was also a long time member of the Highland Park Conservative Temple /Congregation Anshe Emeth, Highland Park and the Temple's Choir. Mr. Rubenstein, along with Sr. Ann, of the Parker Home, assistance, started a Passover Service program at the facility. He had a passion for reading, crossword puzzles, cooking and fixing things. He was especially fond of children and animals, particularly, dogs. For many years he served as a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America in Highland Park..
Son of the late Samuel & Rose Rubenstein, he was also predeceased by his first wife, Ann and his daughter, Mae, and his brothers, Sol & Abe. Surviving are, his second wife, Jean Rosen Rubenstein; his son, Elihu of East Brunswick, NJ; his daughters and their spouses, Paula & Bob Schiff of East Hampton, NY, Judy & Dr. Gary Kalan of Greenwich, Ct. and his five grandchildren, Jason, Aaron & Scott Rubenstein, Geoffrey & Jackie Kalan.
Funeral services are scheduled for noon today, (Wednesday) at the Highland Park Conservative Temple/Congregation Anshe Emeth, corner of Third Avenue & Benner St., Highland Park, NJ. Interment will follow in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, lselin, NJ. Arrangements are by the Crabiel Parkwest funeral Chapel, 2309 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick.
