Vera Ann Knight (née Modica) died at Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson, Maryland on April 21 2016. She was 79.

Mrs. Knight was born on March 13, 1937 in Newark, New Jersey to her parents, Joseph and Josephine Modica. She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1955 and earned an Associates Degree in Accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She married James Timothy Knight in 1962 and they lived first in Montclair and then in Old Bridge before settling in Brick Township, NJ in 1972. In 2008 she moved to the Baltimore, Maryland area to be closer to her daughter Laura and her family. Mrs. Knight was a life-long Roman Catholic. As a child she attended Church of St. Thomas the Apostle in Bloomfield and was a communicant of Visitation Church in Brick for 36 years. Recently she attended Church of the Nativity in Timonium, Maryland. She enjoyed reading, needlework, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Knight is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Christopher Beutler of Cockeysville, Maryland; her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Anne Knight of Hopkinton, New Hampshire; her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Patricia Modica of Manchester, New Jersey, her brother Thomas Modica of Bellingham, Washington, her brother-in-law John Zipple, her sister-in-law Judy (Knight) Fisher, her five grandchildren: James, Thomas, and Andrew Knight and Anna and Ella Beutler, her cousins Peter and Janice Plaia, her dear friend Mary Gebhardt, and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James in 1985, her mother Josephine in 1994, and her father Joseph in 2004. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road in Toms River. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday, April 25 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, April 26 at 11 a.m. at Visitation Roman Catholic Church, 755 Mantoloking Road in Brick. Interment will be at Ocean County Memorial Park in Toms River. The family wishes to express its deep appreciation to the staff of Pickersgill Retirement Community and the Gilchrist Hospice Center for the wonderful, loving care they provided to Mrs. Knight during these last few months.
