In 1989, I was a young, brand new airman just stationed to Beale AFB at the PSD shop. My first day there, Chief Scott took me under his wing and personally presented me to all of the different sections in the shop-kind of like walking a gauntlet for a newbie. As Chief Scott introduced me to the various section heads and workers, he seemed proud of me like a father would be though we had only just met.
A few weeks later, my wife´s friend came to Beale to visit. I wasn´t even fully trained yet and hadn´t seen all of the various operations PSD played a role in. Chief Scott took me, my wife, and her friend on a tour of PSD and the flight line during an SR-71 high flight launch.
Just prior to launch, Chief Scott drove us all out near the spot just off the runway where the SR-71 would be maybe 50 feet over our heads while taking off.
When the Blackbird roared over our heads, the engines were in full burn and the PSD van we were in rocked back and forth. The shockwave of energy passing over was almost disorienting. A thrilling experience! And Chief Scott would have had it no other way. He wasn´t watching the SR as it rocketed over our heads-he had surely seen that dozens of times-he was watching our faces to see our shock and delight.
I knew Chief Scott as a kind, welcoming man with a keen sense of loyalty to his troops. He had an unmistakable interest in making sure others experienced or at least understood some of the many the amazing things he had the great fortune of doing in his life.
I know he influenced a lot of people in lasting and meaningful ways. For me, it was a warm embrace from the top enlisted guy in my shop that let me know he was looking out for me. I´m thankful for the time we shared.

I worked as Scotties Administrative Superintendent for 2 years, and experienced Scotty's amazing ability to juggle the complex PSD Mission. His favorite saying was, "The situation is fluid!" Rest well, Scotty.
