Richard Cassady Obituary


Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Spruce St. in Gridley, for Richard "Dick" Cassady, 83, who passed away on June 5, 2012 at his residence in Gridley, following a long illness.

He was born on July 15, 1928 in Gridley, and was a life long resident.

He was a farmer for over 70 years and enjoyed antique cars, horses, and showing his prize hogs in state fairs.

He was a devoted husband and father.

He graduated from Gridley High School in 1945 with perfect attendance.

He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, serving in Korea.

He was a Past Master and 50 year member of the North Butte Masonic Lodge in Gridley, and the Ben Ali Shrine of Sacramento. He served on the Butte County Fair Board for many years, and was a member of the Biggs- West Gridley Water District.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jerry Ruth Cassady; and two sisters, Dorothy Mae Bequette and Mary Helen Morris.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Jane Cassady of Gridley; three sons: Ralph Cassady and Michael Cassady, both of Gridley, and Joe Cassady of Linda; one step-son, Michael Thompson of Bountiful, Utah; four step-daughters: Lisa McAlpine of Aptos, Sheila Salter of Auburn, Kerri Thompson of Gridley and Sherri Coats of Bountiful, Utah; 1 brother, Marvin Cassady of Gridley; and one sister, Ruth Ann King of Gridley; 22 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Dr. James Brown of the Gridley Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and the North Butte Masonic Lodge of Gridley will co-officiate to the services.

Burial at the Gridley-Biggs Cemetery will follow the services.

Contributions to the Butte County Fair are suggested by the family.

Services are under the care of the Gridley- Block Funeral Chapel.
