Dave Knudson Obituary
Sioux Falls, SD - David "Dave" R. Knudson, born in De Smet, South Dakota, on February 7, 1946, died peacefully at Dougherty Hospice in Sioux Falls on December 29, 2020, surrounded with love and comfort. Following a devastating cancer diagnosis and grueling abdominal surgery in the summer of 2018, the odds said Dave had less than six months to live. Despite decades of attentive listening to his patients, Dave didn't listen this time. With a veteran's grit, a runner's determination, Norwegian stubbornness, and the love and support of his family and close friends, Dave defied the odds. Dave will be remembered for his grace, humor, love, humility, and courage, which live and breathe through the people close to him.
Dave will be missed by his girls, Kristen Peterson (Sioux Falls, SD) and Kate Wolters (Alexandria, VA); their husbands, Mitch Peterson and Brad Wolters; and his four granddaughters, Molly Kate, Elizabeth, Abigail and Anne.
Public visitation will take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Private family funeral services and burial at Woodlawn Cemetery will take place on Wednesday, January 6, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, kindly direct memorials to Leif Ericson Day Camp scholarship fund to provide a camp experience for kids who would otherwise not be able to attend camp.

Dave and I graduated from DeSmet in 1964. We grew up about 3 blocks from each other We spent most of our high school years together especially on the track field. I dont know if anyone has come across his track medals, but between high school and college he has to have hundreds. He was and always will be a friend forever. I have a track picture that I would like his daughters to have but I have no address.
