John 'JP' G. Pellman, 69, of Maple, died Friday, March 7, 2025.
JP was born in Superior on March 29, 1955, son of George and Lina (Johnson) Pellman. He married Ann Burns on Feb 13, 1993, and they celebrated 32 years of marriage.
Early on John worked for Globe Elevators, Maple Telephone Co-op, and Larry Hendrickson Construction. He then joined the Operating Engineers Union Local #139 and worked for South Shore Sand and Gravel in Iron River, Roffers Construction in Ashland, and most recently for Mathy Construction.
John loved the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Upon purchasing land, he started numerous building projects following the Finnish tradition of first building a sauna. John was self-reliant, tending a large garden growing his favorite potatoes, raising chickens, harvesting wood for heating and building projects. JP also made homemade wine from blueberries he picked locally. John loved the outdoors, from fishing on the Brule River and ice fishing on Lake Superior, to spending time with his hunting buddies at his beloved hunting shack. John was an excellent deer hunter and a master deer tracker. He cherished the memories made with the "Bardon Creek Gang," his lifelong hunting partners, Ted, Jimmy, John, and Tanner. JP enjoyed old-time country music and excelled at playing guitar and singing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond Soyring; nephew, Aaron Tuura; and brother-in-law, Jose Chay.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; sisters, Susie (Charl) Kampanat of Thailand and Shirley (Randy) Tuura of Brule; sister-in-law, Julie Chay of California; nieces and nephews, Dustin (Megan) Soyring of Hibbing MN, Jarrett Tuura of Brule, Logan Tuura of South Range, Christie (Yo) and Melissa (A) of Thailand and David and Alex Chay of California; many cousins and friends.
The family expresses appreciation to the heart and vascular doctors, nurses, and staff at Essentia Hospital in Duluth; and sends heartfelt gratitude to the Maple First Responders, Mayo ambulance service, the Life Flight crew, Douglas County Sheriffs Department, and the medical examiner.
