Ann Ulmer Obituary

ULMER, Ann

Ann Young Ulmer, 93, a longtime resident of Atlanta, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025. Interment will be at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA, following a private service.

Born in Little Rock, Arkansas on May 31, 1932, Ann was the daughter of Louise and Ellis (Ray) Young. She married her high school love, David B. Ulmer, Jr. "Dave" in 1954. Ann graduated from LSU, earning a degree in Home Economics. She made the most of that decision, first working as a home economist at New Orleans Public Service, then teaching high school home economics before assisting in the administration of the WIC program in South Florida.

Ann's most notable professional endeavor led her to start her own business, working with General Electric teaching chefs, as well as families, how to use a magical new invention called the "microwave oven."

Although Ann thoroughly enjoyed her home economics career, her true joy came from simply being "mom" and "grandma," roles at which she excelled. She was famous for throwing elaborate, themed birthday parties for her children and planning cultural outings with her cherished grandchildren. Her family meant everything to Ann, prompting her and her mother, Louise, to dedicate time and effort into researching the family's genealogy.

Ann was also the consummate hostess, entertaining Dave's business associates from around the globe. Many of these associates and their families became lifelong personal friends of Ann and Dave, often joining them on their beloved boat, The Cabaret. She also enjoyed a lifelong relationship with several dear childhood friends, forming a group known affectionately as "The Lovelies." The Lovelies enjoyed almost 80 years of travel, laughs, adventure, and very special memories together. Ann's loss is felt far and wide by all those who knew her by any name, be it Aunt Ann, mom, grandma, or dear friend.

Ann is survived by her daughter Charlotte Duggan (Alan), son David III, daughter-in-law Tanya Ulmer, and four grandchildren – Christopher Duggan, Kayleigh Duggan, David B. Ulmer IV, and David Brian Ulmer, as well as sisters Esther (Cissy) Andre and Frances Bellerino, and brothers George Young and Edward Young. Ann was preceded in death by her husband Dave, son Stephen, and sister Dorothy Young (Dottie).
