I know there are no words to ease the pain the Mahaffey family and the friends of our fallen hero are feeling. I would like to share one thought; As you traveled down Hwy 138 today in the procession and saw the hundreds of faces, know those faces belong to citizens of this county that love you and are there to offer support in any way they can. May you and your family as well as the Rockdale Sheriff Dept. be held in the arms of the Lord.

My thoughts and prayers to the Mahaffey family. May you take comfort in the knowledge that Brian's life was not in vain. Out of this very tragic event, may each citizen take a few minutes to thank our men and women in uniform - no matter the color, no matter the "branch" of service - for laying their lives on the line each and every day so that we might feel safe within our own homes.
To Brian's parents: From the outpouring of love from the community, I can tell that Brian was an incredible human being. You each must have done an amazing job. My deepest sympathies to you for your loss.
To Brian's brother: I pray that God watches over you in the coming days, weeks, months and years. I pray that you remember your brother with joyous and wonderful memories.
To Brian's fellow officers (and ALL of our public servants): Thank you to each of you for your service. You put your uniform on each day knowing the risks involved - thank you for that. Thank you for being the few who are willing to put their lives on the line so that we might rest easy and live without fear.
To Brian's family and friends: I hope that you remember Brian in the best of times.
And finally, to Brian's wife: There are not enough words to express how deeply sorry I am that you are having to go through this, but please know that you are not alone. There is an entire community standing beside you, ready to lift you up when you need it most. I pray that as the days begin to pass, you find the strength to make it through each day. I pray that you can one day remember all of the wonderful memories you shared with your husband and that you can share those memories with your two young, precious children. I hope that your children will be able to know Brian through you and his family. Know that he is with you in spirit, even when you can no longer see him.
RIP Officer Brian Mahaffey! Thank you for your years of service! A TRUE hero walked among us. May we never forget you.

I am the Officer
I have been where you fear to be
I have seen what you fear to see
I have done what you fear to do
All these things I have done for you
I am the person you lean upon
The one you cast your scorn upon
The one you bring your troubles to
All these things I’ve been for you
The one you ask to stand apart
The one you feel should have no heart
The one you call the officer in blue
But I’m just a person, just like you
And through the years I’ve come to see
That I am not always what you ask of me
So take this badge, take this gun
Will you take it? …Will anyone?
And when you watch a person die
And hear a battered baby cry
Then do you think that you can be
All these things you ask of me?

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
