Charles ALLEN Obituary

ALLEN, Charles Lee Charles Lee Allen, 68, of Marietta Ga. died Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Tranquility of Kennesaw Mountain. Charles was a native Atlantan. He was devoted to his wife, Kay, who passed away May 28, 2011, and contributed each year to the Savannah March of Dimes in honor of Kay's father, George F. Hendry, whom he so loved and respected. He greatly valued family as well as a wide circle of friendships, many spanning his lifetime, especially from his early years at Epworth Methodist Church, Bass High School, and the University of Georgia, always a Bulldog with a view to living by the Vince Dooley rules. If a family member or friend was in need, Charles would be the first one to offer help. As a young man, he was proud of becoming an Eagle Scout and was a lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts. He was an avid bridge player and became a Life Master. Until becoming disabled, Charles was a salesman of business equipment. Charles is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law Beverly and Paul Ford and Betty and Bill Chadwick of Atlanta, Doris and Tim Mahanay of Rome, and sister-in-law, Sandra Allen of Texas as well as four nephews Glynn and Allen Moss and Joseph, III and James Allen. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Joseph H. and Elizabeth C. Allen and his brother, Joseph H. Allen, Jr. A memorial gathering to celebrate Charlie's life will be held at a later date. Remembrances in Charlie's name may be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church, 1561 McLendon Ave, Atlanta 30307; the Boy Scouts of America and the March of Dimes. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to those who worked to alleviate Charlie's suffering in his final days, especially Dr. Joseph Hannan. Arrangements by H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill Chapel. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hmpatterson-cantonhill.com.

Not sure what to say?

John 5:25

June 3, 2014

It can be so hard to face the first year without your loved one, but the love of family and friends can carry you through.

June 3, 2014

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the family as you say your final farewells to Charlie. I recall Charlie so fondly as he "bugged" Betty and me when we were trying so hard to "be mature"!! What wonderful youthful memories I have of Charlie, his wit, his spirit for life. I wish I had known him as an adult. He sounds like he carried many virtues into his grown up life. I will keep you in my prayers. Terri Grant Matus

I lived down the street from Charlie and the Allen family for many years and went from kindergarten through high school with Charlie. He was a wonderful person who will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time. Sincerely, Julie Saucier Monroe
