Charles Pittard Obituary

PITTARD, Jr., Charles C.

Charles C. Pittard, Jr.,, was born on November 29, 1941, and passed on to glory on January 23, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Zimmerman "Pat" Pittard; his father, The Honorable Charles C. Pittard, Sr.; and mother, Myrtle Strickland Pittard.

He is survived by his twin sister, Mima Pittard Hohn; and his younger sister, Rebecca Pittard Cavan; his three children, Charles III (Chad), Laurie Pittard Kimbell, and Todd; and grandchildren, Conoly and Katherine (Katie) Kimbell.

Charles grew up in Duluth, Georgia, graduated from Duluth High School, and attended the University of Georgia, where he graduated in 1963 with a BBA degree. While at UGA, he was Secretary and Treasurer of the freshman class, a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, and member of the Interfraternity Council. During his senior year at UGA, he met Pat Zimmerman at a Coke machine in Park Hall, who became his adored wife of 58 years.

After UGA, Charles served in the United States Coast Guard, and then began his career with the Shell Oil Company. He transitioned into a career in real estate brokerage with Galen Kilburn and Co., before forming Charles Pittard & Co., where he was engaged until his death.

Active in several organizations, Charles served on the board of Gwinnett Federal Savings & Loan, was a longtime member of the Dunwoody Rotary Club. He was on the Board of Directors at the Atlanta Athletic Club, where he served as its President and Chairman. He was a member of Dunwoody Methodist Church for 48 years, serving as an usher for most of those years. Welcoming morning worshippers on Sundays was his personal ministry.

Charles cherished his many moments related to golf, including his and Pat's travels to numerous destinations in Scotland, England, and Pebble Beach, and an abundance of golfing companions at the Atlanta Athletic Club — companions who grew into cherished friends.

Charles would meet life's challenges with his constant saying, "It is what it is," then navigate them with grace. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and loved his family dearly. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.

A joint memorial service honoring Charles and Pat Pittard will take place on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the sanctuary of Dunwoody United Methodist Church, 1548 Mt. Vernon Rd., Dunwoody, GA 30338. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Dunwoody United Methodist Church.

Charles was one of the all time good guys. A consummate southern gentleman loved and respected by all. Also, a DGD!
