Earl Thomas Obituary

THOMAS, Earl

On November 8, 2024, God called Marvin Earl Thomas "Earl" home. Born on December 31, 1946, at Warren A. Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA, to Charles and Mary Thomas, Earl was the second of four children. He grew up on Tybee Island and graduated from Savannah High School in 1965. His family attended Chapel by the Sea Baptist in Tybee. Earl earned his Bachelor's degree at Southern Technical Institute and spent over fifty years in the heating and air conditioning business, retiring in 2023 from Gwinnett County Planning and Development following ten years of service. Earl was an active member of Highlands Presbyterian Church. In 1977, Earl met the love of his life, Joyce Porter, whom he married in 1985. Earl was known for his giving, kind heart. He was first and foremost a family man. He loved his family more than anything else and did his best to make time for his grandkids and great-grandkids. Outside of family, Earl was known as an exceptionally hard worker, avid marathon runner and was as big of a Georgia Tech fan as they come. Earl was a genuine light in the world, and he will be greatly missed. Earl is survived by his wife, Joyce; sister, Karen Feagin; sons, Russ Thomas, David Porter, and Wayne Porter; and daughters, Sharon Troncalli, and Stephanie Miller; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Earl's ashes will rest in Tybee Island. In lieu of flowers, please donate to church or charity in memory of Earl. Earl donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 11, at 10 AM, at Highlands Presbyterian Church, located at 830 Grayson Pkwy., in Grayson, GA.
