My condolences go to Jane and the family for their great loss. George hired me when I got out of the Army in 1967, and was my Boss and Mentor at Columbus Iron Works and a great friend thereafter for as long as he was alive. I played football at Ga Tech from 1958-1962, and George Mathews was a legend at Ga Tech. He was a great entrepreneur and he bought CFI, later Intermet, and grew it into a world class supplier of ductile castings. He was a great leader and motivator, and could always see and focus on the big picture. The world will not soon see his equal, and I am blessed to have been his friend.

The world has lost a great leader. George took time, to talk and listen to everyone that worked under him. Too few of the leaders in business today have that quality.

I echo the comments of my friends at INTERMET Columbus Foundries. George's leadership qualities, positive attitude, love of business, and love of people influenced my life and the lives of many others. I have many fond memories of George which I cherish and reflect upon frequently. God will bless the legacy George left us all. Thank you George!

At 18 years of age - I was given the opportunity to work for one of the greatest companies and most inspirational human beings I've ever known. I will be forever grateful for the knowledge and experience I gained - and the friendships that came from being a part of the INTERMET Columbus Foundries family. George Mathews nurtured and breathed that into all that were a part of the INTERMET family. God Bless you all...praying for your loss! .... Gina Harper

iI have a regret. Over the last couple of years, I often thought of sending a note to Mr. Mathews thanking him for opportunity and guidance when he hired me in 1981. He was a great influence in my life for the better. Now he is gone without ever hearing my expression of gratitude. I know he touched many lives. My condolences to the family. He was a great man.

I am so sadden by the loss of this great man. He was a great mentor to me and so many others. He taught me that if you do not work for yourself but rather for your customers and your coworkers, you will be successful. I have missed him since 2000. May he rest in peace. And my condolences to the family.

Kathleen & family, your dad was a power and he was a strong influence on me. He once told me the immortal phrase..."if the is no conflict, there is no interest" in response to my undoubtedly foolish question about a potential conflict of interest. He was always fun to be around, and his energy was inspiring. As I shed a tear for your loss, I know he will be leading the industrialists section for good in Heaven when we get there. My family sends our heartfelt condolences. Ken

My father (Luke Bowen- GT class of 48) played football at Tech with George Mathews (Alexander's & Dodd's boys). He is someone that my Dad and mother (Joyce) always remembered fondly and recall what a nice gentleman he was. I always remember hearing the name George Mathews growing up, so I was sad to learn of his passing. Luke passed in 2012, and he loved to tell Tech Football stories that included George Mathews. It's sad to lose the great Tech "Boys" and those who gave Tech its great football history and reputation. My sympathies to the family. God Bless You. Patsy Bowen

I am sorry to hear George passed and I will make sure to be there for both you all and George. George gave me several business tips and I owe George for that. He was a guy that was obviously a doer and sold himself and his company with Face to Face meetings. I really hate seeing such a great man as being gone. I have several story's I have passed onto my kids so they can continue with the lessons George instilled in me.
