I think of Mike often. I rely on the many lessons and advice he shared with me. His character and work ethic still motivate me and I´m sure others, to this day. I´ll always be grateful for his friendship and support. I trust you´re looking down upon us, in a better place, still imparting wisdom and guidance, if only in the memories we all share of you.

my sincere condolences to the Luckett family and friends. i worked with mike on a series on new, innovative remediation projects during the 10 years i worked at G&M/Arcadis. we implemented intrinsic bioremediation/bioattenuation into several closures that were "firsts" approved and closed by various state and federal regulators. Once i had proved thru extra data and mike's input as to intimate hydrogeology, we made quite the team--along with joe maddalena-we generated alot of projects in region 4-epa. many hours on reviewing potential remdial projects-technical presentations and team selection to serve the client--no greater professional have i ever worked with than Mike Luckett. Your loss is mine, too, sincerely, Tommy Lee Crossman & family. p.s.--mike, joe and i--we had lots of fun, too!!!

I have had the pleasure to know Mike Luckett for the past 15 years. Not that anyone ever really got to know Mike. But I probably came as close as anyone in his most recent years.
I first met Mike when he was the Project Manager for an environmental remediation project I was also involved in. Mike always projected professionalism, knowledge, proven experience and know how, with just the right amount of confident swagger. He took control of our project and made real progress for the first time in over 10 years, after it had been tied up in legal limbo. Mike had little time to waste on talking about doing something, many times saying that by the time the lawyers reached an agreement on what to do, or not to do, as is many times the case, the size of the project had multiplied. He practiced managing his projects smart and deliberately, and left it to the lawyers and regulators to talk about it afterward. He had “work to do”, as he often said, and the results are a positive tribute to Mike Luckett. Mike was well respected in the professional field by peers, associates, students, competitors, and regulators. I have been in many meetings where, when Mike Luckett spoke, everyone listened.
Mike and I developed a close friendship over the years since the environmental project. We spent many a cold early morning and late evening deer hunting. Mike was an avid bow hunter. Mike enjoyed the hunt, but he always enjoyed the time in the field. His enthusiasm never waned. But his passion was fishing. He taught my son, and me, how to really fish for largemouth bass. We spent time hunting, fishing, canoeing, mountain bike riding, camping, playing guitar, telling stories, sharing laughs, and just talking, and planning to do it all over again.
Mike was a very unique individual. His life was full of experiences that many people never even think about, let alone do. He had a wonderful family and group of friends that he loved, whether he told you so or not, I could tell by the way he spoke about you that he did.
“Luckett”, as our daughter fondly called him, has gone on ahead to a better place. And knowing Mike, he will have it in much better shape by the time we get there.

Michael was my first cousin. we had met over the years mostly at Luckett functions in Canton, Ms. Since we lived so far apart, I was unable to get to know him and my other cousins as i would have liked. When I think of Michael I still see a golden haired, tanned young man that as we 'd say in the 70's was "Cool",. Daddy had taken us to Lake St. John to see our cousin Michael in a sking championship, well he didn't win but boy could he ski! This is the way I will remember Michael, very vibrant and athletic. It seems that throughout his life he gave his all in every endeaver, whether it be work or family. My thoughts and prayers are with the family, I wish I could be there but know I am "By Heart" ...............May God give you all solice and strength !!! I wish to add a special prayer to my Aunt Georgia, who is one of the finest people I've ever known, I love you and am so sorry for your loss.

Until recently I had worked with Mike for the last 14 years; most of my working career. He hired a young, clueless geologist, gave me "Mike Luckett" speeches numbers 1 to 273, and we proceeded together as a team. Sometimes indestructible & invincible, always confident, but oh man watching out for cocky. "Mike Luckett" speech #22 "When you get high & mighty & overconfident you are really asking for a major fall straight off the perch into the poo at the bottom of the cage." Most would say he was my one & only mentor. I will be forever grateful for the knowledge he tried to impart to me, but I wouldn't say mentor. Mike wouldn't like that. It would make him feel old, which would then make him feel that another fast, sleek sportscar (Dodge Stealth) was needed. We talked about it once and decided partner in crime would do. Before my wife Tanya was my wife, or even my girlfriend, Mike said we were like two peas in a pod. Like always, he knew something we didn't. She took him deer hunting once and now likens him to an Environmental Clint Eastwood. Tough, wise in his words, and someone you could trust. The picture of him for the obituary captures him perfectly. You know you're smiling when you look at it. A witty smirk like something is going to get seriously funny. Someone referred to his wit as dry like toast. He was Crusty. Mike Luckett...smartest man I've ever known? Yup. I am proud and honored to have known him. Sad because I'll never get "Mike Luckett" speeches numbers 274 to infinity. Mike Luckett...gone and passed away? Nope. He just sauntered out the back door still owing me that beer. Cheers Mike & Safe Travels, Jeff & Tanya Moore

It was my pleasure to work with Mike at Geraghty & Miller in the late 1980's. He provided guidance, sound advice and of course a great deal of comic relief. Our profession has lost a true gem.

My thoughts are with Mike's friends and family. He was a true mentor to me having known him for over 17 years and having had the true honor of working with him for many years. I learned firsthand how to base decisions on principle and Mike was truly a man of strong character. He will be missed by many and remembered always.

I played in the Beathovens with Mike in Columbus in the early 1960s He was a fine musician who had a quick and playful intellect wrapped up in a tough, funny, outside-the-in-crowd demeanor. He was a principled honest guy and the world is a poorer place with him gone.
Shine on, Mike.
