Family-Placed Death Notice

ELDER, Odessa Mitchell Mrs. Odessa Mitchell Elder, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Lusendy Mitchell was born in Jasper County, Georgia. Odessa attended Walker Chapel School in Morgan County, Georgia. Early in life she joined New Enon Baptist Church in Godfrey, Georgia and later in life she moved her membership to Macedonia Baptist Church in Rutledge, Georgia where she served on the Usher Board and Mother Board until her health declined. In 1950, she was united in holy matrimony to Roy Elder Sr. (deceased), and to this union they were blessed with 12 children. Odessa was employed at C&D Technology in Conyers, Georgia for many years until her retirement. Odessa leaves to cherish her memories 2 sons Nathaniel (Linda) Elder and Rob Elder; Roy Elder Jr. preceded her in death; daughters Mildred Mitchell (Atlanta, Georgia), Lillie Ann Elder, Elois Elder Ross, Dorothy Marie Florence, Annie Elizabeth Elder, Eyvonne Frances, Katie Elder and Elaine Elder all of Rutledge, Georgia; 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-great-grandchild; 3 sisters Inez Turner, Fannie Lou Mitchell (Atlanta, Georgia), Lizzie Marie (Dan) Jackson of Cleveland, Ohio; 2 brothers Leroy (Vera) Mitchell and Henry Mitchell Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia. Three brothers preceded her in death Otha, Roosevelt and Robert Mitchell; two sisters also preceded her in death Annie Kate Jones and Line Redding; one loving daughter-in-law Shirley Elder. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 1 PM at Macedonia Baptist Church, 336 East Main Street, Rutledge, Georgia. Family visitation will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013 at Jones and Turner Funeral Home Chapel, 484 Burney Street, Madison, Georgia form 5 PM to 7 PM. The body will lie in state from 12 PM until hour of service. Family and friends please assemble at the family residence 211 Hollis Street, Rutledge, Georgia at 12:30 PM.
