I met Peggy at a event hosted by Bank of America and became friends because of her beauty and strong will working for the bank. I owned a Chrysler deallership in Charlotte and she asked me to attend the her event. I didn't know Peggy very well, but was very impressed with her strong personality and knowledge of the banking industry. An old friend of mine, Jimmy Hines also from Detroit asked me to try to get him in Chrysler's minority dealer canddate training program and I agreed and Chrysler allowed him to train at my dealership. Like Peggy, Jimmy is a very sharp business manager at General Motors accounting department. He excelled in the training and was given an opportunity in Tennessee.

Peggy was given her first opportunity in a Buick, dealership which was a less than perfect opportunity and the Minority Dealer Operations team, saw that she was struggling and offered her the Buick-Volvo- in December,1992 in Franklin , TN which she very quickly turned struggling dealership around and quickly turned ito a very profitably in her first 90 days. Her illness began to take its toll and the management staff missed her strong willed personality and the business started to struggle.

I believe if she had been able to continue managing the dealerhip it would have been one of the most profitable dealership in the General Motors family of franchised dealerships.

I miss my friend just as her staff and family did also.

Not growing up with the family and meeting a number of the Hill's later in life, including Peggy, she took me in as if we grew up together. Through the years of getting to actually know Peggy, I learned that she was not an ordinary woman, but a woman that was blessed to have gods favor in all that she did. What an extraordinary life Peggy lived, and I could only hope to be the person she was. It was a blessing and a privilege to have known Peggy. May god be with the family.

Peggy was definitely one of the strongest women I've ever known. She was a second mom to me while I lived with her during my college years in Atlanta. She'll always be one of my favorite people in this life and will miss her always.

My sincere condolences to the entire Cockerham family . I had the pleasure of meeting Peggy here in Nashville. Since I am originally from Greensboro we often shared experiences growing up in NC. We also shared a mutual friend in Marilyn Robinson . Just last year we traveled to Chicago to see the play Hamilton for my birthday .
