After all these years, today I am remembering Phyllis Huff. Great memories, good times, many laughs, and I still have the bird house she gave me years ago. Fond remembrances and blessings on this day to the family.

Malcolm, Eric and Andrew I am truly sorry to hear of your wife and mother's passing. Just remember: A life well-lived doesn't end any more than music ends - it echoes through time with whispers of beauty and grace and if we listen, we can hear the encore with our hearts - for the song plays on just as the 'love' lives on. God Bless You and Your Entire Family.

To the Huff Family,
Please accept my sincerest condolences and greatest sympathies on your loss...Mrs. Huff, as I knew her, left an amazing mark on my life. She was my SCORE teacher from 1977 to 1982, and upon my 'graduation' from E.W. Oliver Elementary School at 12 years of age, she presented me with a stone that she had had painted, ever so delicately, with a duckling on it. This duckling, as she told me, in some way, represented to her who I was as a child. This stone still sits on my desk today...as a reminder of those people who enter your life for such a short time, but yet leave an indelible mark. I am grateful to have known her...as she taught me to treat people with kindness and to help others become what they are capable of being. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Phyllis and I began teaching gifted education in Clayton Co. about the same time. What impressed me about Phyllis was her creative approach to teaching and her friendly outgoing approach to life. I've been gone from Clayton Co. for along time but still kept in touch with Phyllis at various state gifted ed. functions. Last year before she got sick we were at Jekyll Island together and took a lovely long walk on the beach together. It is memories like walking the beach that I know her family will hold dear to their hearts.

Dear family,
When it comes to a teacher who was determined to make the best out of teaching her gifted students, there was no one better than Mrs. Huff. We had her for a teacher in elementary school at River's Edge in Clayton County; now we are in the 7th grade. Even though we felt we were kind of slow at learning, or just little "pains in the bottom" sometimes, she never gave up on us. She taught us that being gifted meant more than just being smart; it means being creative in your own unique way. We knew her fate would come someday, but not so soon. We will miss her, but we know we will see her again in the future.
Love, Andrew, Tre, and Mohamed

Dear Malcolm, Eric and Andrew,
For the past quarter of a century I have had the priviledge of being a colleague of your dear mother. As SCORE teachers, I admired the expertise and enthusiasm she radiated as she coached her OM teams to state championships and beyond. Her sense of humor and creative problem solving were evident in everything she did, brightening her classroom and the world beyond. She was ever innovative, using the GLOBE program and other cutting edge technologies to make learning relevant for her students. I treasure the memories I have of her. May God bless you, comfort you and sustain you as you adjust to life on earth without her. Remember that this separation is only temporary, and when you see her again in heaven, she will be more perfect than ever.
Love and prayers, Libby

I wanted to wish all the love and strength Mrs. Huff's family will need during this time. She taught me when I was in 6th grade at E.W.Oliver.. I was 12 years old, 23 years ago! I was actually thinking about that class the other day and some of the wonderful activities and experiences Ms. Huff provided for us. My sympathies to her family.. Lori

When Paul, Drew, Chris & I moved in across the street from the Huffs, Phyllis & Malcolm warmly welcomed us into the neighborhood. Through the years, Phyllis and I would talk flowers - what we were planning to plant, what we'd had success with and what we hadn't. We had one major difference: I never wear gloves to plant because they get in my way and I like to play in the dirt, and she would always wear gloves, she said she couldn't stand to get her hands dirty! I always smile when I remember that conversation. I'm so thankful to have known her. I will truly miss my "flower friend" and our family will keep Malcolm, Eric & Andrew in our prayers for God to give them strength, comfort & peace.

Ms. Huff was a powerful lady. I was one of her "challenging minds" from 1982-84 at E.W. Oliver. She was an excellent role model. She believed in my abilities even when I did not. The world of education is better having had her in their realm. She was truly a blessing.

Dear Malcolm, Eric and Andrew,
Phyllis has always had a special place in my heart for several reasons. One because she was my mentor when I first started teaching in the Clayton County Gifted Program many years ago when she taught at Oliver Elem. She was so kind and helpful to me;letting me observe some of her teaching strategies, offering ideas for how to organize my day with the students, and letting me "bug" her when I had questions.
Another reason is that we were going through a common problem;trying to survive cancer and were even going to the same oncologist's office in Fayetteville. I was so glad I got to spend time with her and talk with her at one of our lasts office visits. Eric and Andrew - we always talked about you and my son and daughter since you are about the same ages and would catch up on everyone's latest accomplishments. She was very proud of both of you!
Phyllis was an outstanding person and will be missed. Please know that there will be many, many people whose lives she has touched, who will be keeping you in their thoughts and prayers, which will help you through this very difficult time in your lives.

To us, Mrs. Huff was one of the greatest teachers we've had. Although her class was challenging, we knew it was only to help us become more intelligent students. It was a great honor, for us to be taught by such a wonderful and magnificent teacher. She was truly an angel on earth and we were blessed to be graced with her presence.

Dear Precious Family of Phyllis Huff,
I am a retired Media Specialist and I shared an office with Phyllis at the Admin. Complex in Jonesboro. The day that I met Phyllis three years ago she was a blessing to my life. Her sincerity, kindness, and genuine concern just radiated in her life. I wish I could have known her longer. There is no doubt where she is today. Phyllis's faith in God was daily expressed as she loved everyone she met. My prayers go with you, Malcolm, Eric, Andrew, and family, for I know she was your sunshine.

Phyllis was one of the most amazing people I've ever met. Her truly positive attitude and calm demeanor were always inspirational to me. I have a fun memory from the days of Odyssey of the Mind. There was a Coach's Competition, and Phyllis's students had taken George Harrison's "I've Got My Mind Set on You" and changed the you to OM. She wore a large shirt with the top of it over her head so that the top of her head was the "neck" area. The "head" was a wig head with the face, etc. added. It was so hilarious! Phyllis was always willing to anything to help her students learn and grow. She often shared innovative teaching strategies or programs such as Mars City Alpha with us to help us reach our students.
Malcolm, Andrew, and Eric, you're in my thoughts and prayers as you grieve. Your wife and mother was truly an angel on this earth. She is already sorely missed.
Sincerely,
Anita L. Thomaston
