Family-Placed Death Notice
SCHOECK, Richard Schoeck, Richard Kevin - Richard Kevin Schoeck, age 46 of Snellville passed away Monday, February 15, 2010. Born June 25, 1963 in Glen Ridge, NJ, Richard graduated from Auburn University with a degree in art that was reflected all throughout his life. Richard served as Cubmaster for Pack 65, a soccer coach, a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a smiling presence at Gwinnett Christian Academy where all three of his boys attend school. He had a passion for hot air ballooning, the curvy roads of the north Georgia mountains on his motorcycle, cooking and soccer, just to name a few. Richard was a lover of life to the fullest. Mr. Schoeck was preceded in death by his father, Edward M. Schoeck and brother, Stephen R. Schoeck. He is survived by wife, Stacey M. Schoeck, children, Douglas "D.J." Walker, Keith Morgan Schoeck, Kevin Thomas Schoeck, all of Snellville; mother, Marion H. Schoeck, Sugarhill; sister & brother-in-law, Carol & Russell Fillingim, Cumming; nieces & nephews: Nicole Fillingim, Brian Fillingim, Rob Schoeck, Alec Schoeck, Will and Angela Schoeck; and great-nephew, Tyler Schoeck. A memorial service honoring the life of Richard Schoeck will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Snellville with Dr. Mike Garrett officiating. Reception will follow after the service with a helium balloon launch at 1 p.m. Given Richard's love of colors, the family would like to request attendees to wear their favorite color on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Northeast Georgia Council of Boy Scouts of America, 203 Swanson Drive, Lawrenceville, GA 30043 in memory of Richard Schoeck. I worked with Richard at Serologicals for 3 years. I remember when he met Stacey. Richard was a kind and gentle person who wanted to make everyone laugh. He never met a stranger. I pray that you are resting peacefully in the arms of God!

I met Richard in the mid 80's when he had just graduated college and became my (then) boyfriend's roommate. He was a great guy, very smart and personable, with a lot of varied interests. I am so sorry for your loss as I can just imagine what a wonderful husband and father he was. My thoughts are with your family.

Mr. Richard, you are missed more than we could ever have fathomed. You were such a presence in the lives of our family; a dear, kind, caring, loving, committed, true, trustworthy, and loved friend. You hold a very, very special in our hearts and in our memories. I met Richard about four years ago at Snellville Middle School and reconnected with him when our kids played soccer at Creekside soccer. I always enjoyed talking with him and Stacey at the soccer field. He was a nice guy and he will be missed.

Richard and I were great friends in the 80's and 90's - back when we were both poor and single. We met when Richard became my roommate's boyfriend's roommate (follow that?). Richard was fresh out of college and ready to experience life. We had many (platonic)memorable times together, playing hackey sac, cooking for friends, camping, climbing Stone Mountain, decorating, riding around in his really old blue Chevy and then later in his new blue Chevy - all kinds of stuff. Richard was the DJ at my first wedding and later, resufaced in my life long enough for me to go to his first wedding. I lost touch with Richard sometime after that, but was reacquianted with him via Facebook just a few months ago. Richard called me and we had a wonderful chat - it was so great to hear his voice. Little did I know it would be the last time. Stacey, you are so lucky to have shared your life with Richard. I always hoped that Richard would find someone who would appreciate him for the wonderful guy he was. Richard always made life fun and interesting...he touched more lives than he ever knew. My heart goes out to you and the kids. He will be missed by many. Richard, I love you, buddy!

My sons Isaiah and Javontti are cub scouts and have been greatly enriched by the instruction, and time Mr. Richard invested in their lives.

I graduated from Brookstone School with Richard, and remember him as a cheerful and fun loving person. He was an excellent soccer player then and a fabulous artist. He would always help anyone who needed help. I know his absence is a terrible loss for his family.

Just wanted to say 'thank you' to Mr Richard and his family for being so nice to me and my son. When my son decided to join Cub Scouts, you all DID NOT hesitate to help with picking him up for meetings. My son will cherish each time Richard gave him a pin during the pack meetings. Richard would call me at work just to make sure he had a ride. Wow... it is devasting. The world has suffered a great loss but the memories will last forever. Stacey, I really hope you and the boys are doing well. We have you all in our prayers. :)

I never really got to know my Uncle Rich. He lived in the South and I lived in the North. Of course I received a card and a gift on birthdays and Christmas, but other than that, there was not much correspondence at all...at least until last summer, the summer of 2009. I spent the month of June at my brother's place in North Carolina and for my grandpa's funeral, Richard's father, I traveled to Georgia and stayed at Richard and Stacey's place. This was when I got to know my Uncle Rich. My last memory of him was hanging out in the hot tub late night drinking margaritas and listening to Steppenwolf. I will always remember you Uncle Rich. Now you are jamming out to Steppenwolf with Dad and Grandpa up in heaven. You will never be forgotten and we will see each other again.

Richard was a great friend. He never complained or had a bad day. I will always remember our motorcycle rides together. Richard was blessed with a great family and friends. We are going to miss him.

My son, Bryson, became a member of Richard's Tiger scout troup in 2009. Though he only knew him a short time, but he talks about him constantly. Richard had a way with children that was so special there is not a word to describe it. He will be missed. Many blessing of peace to his family.

Two instant images pop into my mind when i think of Richard. The first is him building a fire at Rainey Mountain for one of the webelos weekends. I have never seen a fire that large outside of a blast furnace.
The second is him and Stacey riding up to waffle house on their bikes. Each had a kid holding on for dear life. The sight of that family holding on to each other while doing something they love will always be with me.
He was a good friend, a great father and a wise leader. Earth is a little smaller without him.

We knew, whatever new adventure Scouting brought to us, we would survive because our fearless leader, Mr. Richard, was there! What encouraging mentors Richard and Stacey were for Tiger Den newcomers. Richard was the perfect Tiger Den Leader & Cubmaster for my son. Silly, fun, honorable, caring, helpful...Richard embodied all of these. That's the thing about Richard. Knowing him just a short while seemed like years of trusted, fun-loving friendship. Richard's zest for life, commitment to Scouting and love for his wife and children are all memories that will forever bring smiles.

Richard was an AMAZING man & scout leader. He was ALWAYS smiling or making someone else smile. Bryce has learned so much from him, & to Bryce he will ALWAYS be "Daddy Shark." Richard was a people person, & if one knew Richard for six months it felt like six years. He upheld the scout slogan "Do a good turn daily," because he was ALWAYS there to lend a helping hand. We will miss Richards lovely smile and his funny stories. I will miss him telling me I stay on my phone, & him calling me Char. Richard is gone but he will NEVER be forgotten, & we all have wonderful memories of him.

I feel so blessed to have had Richard as a part of my family. A wonderful husband,father,son,brother,well everything,he was simply wonderful! Richard was one the biggest father figures in my kids' lives. We will miss him so much.

I loved how Richard made my boys feel. He used to make Kirin belly laugh and did this just recently to entertain Kirin while I held the wolf den meeting. He always put a smile on my face every time I saw him. He will be truly missed by my family. We will always love him and miss him. Richard, I'm proud to say, was one of the most oustanding people I have ever been luckly enough to call a dear friend. By good fortune, my life was enhanced upon meeting Richard via a common friend (Skip, each of us from Columbus) while on many visits to Auburn during college, and continued with occassional visits and a couple of annual phone calls dating up to a few months ago. Each time, it was as if we were just together the day before. My thoughts are with the Shoeck family, particularly his wife Stacey and children, and all Richard's friends sharing with me countless tears at sad time.

Why Not? When faced with the new or uncertain many people ask why? The evening I found out my dear friend Richard had died my brother reminded me that Richard was not a ‘why?’ person; he was a ‘why not?’ person. Something new to try…someone new to meet…why not? It was this love and enthusiasm for life that set Richard apart and made him special to so many. As I’ve struggled for meaning in this difficult time there is none immediately forthcoming. Perhaps meaning will come later. For now, I miss you terribly, my friend, and maybe the best we can do is follow the example you set – live each day to the fullest, cherish those close to us and let them know how much we care, and in so doing make the most of the time we have here…Why not?

I remember on my second birthday I wouldn't let Richard put me down so he carried me around the entire time. Every birthday (after mom deemed us old enough) we got to go for a ride on his motorcycle, we also got to ride in hot air balloons with him too. "Coolest uncle ever" I thought. He picked on me because "he loved me" and I was his "favorite niece". I will miss his jokes and forever miss him. He was definitely one of the coolest uncles ever.

I worked with Richard and he was the kindest man I knew. He was the one that could fix anything and find a solution if he could not solve yours. +Richard, I will never forget our three days of Advanced Outdoor Skills Training at the Scouts 'Tali Atsila' program at Scoutland. We had to bond as a team working together in friendly competition against senior Scout patrols in outdoor pioneering, cooking and orienteering. I will never forget sharing that experience with you. You were a highly respected leader of Pack 65 in Snellville and an inspiration to all those Scouts who ever had the opportunity to cross your path. Linda and I were deeply saddened to hear that we lost Richard. We ran into him recently at a Gladiators game and it was like no time had passed since we used to fly together.
