Family-Placed Death Notice

WRIGHT, Tate, Jr. TATE WRIGHT, JR. Tate Wright, Jr. of Athens and Atlanta, Georgia died May 17, 2009, at the age of 83. Tate was the son of Virginia Cook Wright and Tate Wright Sr. of Athens, Georgia. He graduated from Athens High School in 1942 and entered the University of Georgia in September of 1942. He volunteered to join the B12 program during World War II and trained at Emory and Cornell University. He served in the Pacific on the island of Guam. He completed his education after the war at the University of Georgia. He married his high school sweet heart, Constance Schley Ashford of Athens, Georgia in 1947. The young couple moved to Atlanta Georgia where Mr. Wright established a career in the insurance business. He was a loving husband a dedicated father and a quality citizen. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Philip and the Piedmont Driving Club. He enriched the lives of his four children, Constance Ashford Wright Howell and husband Richard Howell, Tate Wright III, Virginia Tate Wright, and Ashley Wright McIntyre and husband Raymond McIntyre. He was proud of his seven grandchildren; Elaine Wright Hynes, Tate Wright IV, Rush Howell, Wright Howell, Ashford McIntyre, Raymond McIntyre IV and Stuart Early Huston Jr. He was especially proud of his three great grandchildren, the children of his first grandchild Elaine Wright Hynes and Charlie Hynes; Charles Hynes, William Hynes and Henry Tate Hynes of Atlanta Georgia and New Jersey. He was predeceased by his daughter Ashley Wright McIntyre, his sister Virginia Tate Wright Smith, and his brother Robert Franklyn Wright. Mr. Wright loved to travel and build homes. He always said he was a "frustrated Architect". He leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins all reared in Georgia. He was loved and will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, the Wright family would like for you to pray for us and peace on earth. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 20 at 10:30 o'clock at the Cathedral of St. Philip, 2774 Peachtree Road NW Atlanta 30305. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Gould Room at St. Philip.
