Family-Placed Death Notice
NIX, Walter Mr. Walter E. "Walt" Nix, age 72, of Gainesville, Georgia, departed this life Monday morning, December 1, 2008 at the Wesley Woods Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Walt was born January 22, 1936 in Rincon, Georgia, a son of the late C. T. and Annie Maude Hatcher Nix. Walt was a 1962 graduate of Georgia Tech, where he earned his degree in Industrial Management. He was the owner of Nix and Miller Inc. in Buford, Georgia, for over twenty five years, which was a metal fabrication operation. He was a member of the Gainesville Rotary, Atlanta Athletic Club and a member of the Gainesville First United Methodist Church. Walt was a self made man who was a very hard worker and loved his family dearly. He supported the Georgia Tech Athletic Association, Georgia Tech Alumni Association, Georgia Tech Golf Team, and held season tickets to Football and Basketball games for almost 50 years. He also was an avid, golfer. While a student at Georgia Tech he met the true love of his life, Betty Leavell, at the Varsity Restaurant and just celebrated their fifty-first wedding anniversary, November 1, 2008. In addition to his wife, Betty Nix of Gainesville, GA, he is survived by son, Glenn Nix of Duluth, GA; daughters, Debbie Nix of Dawsonville, GA, Pamela Nix and her partner, Theresa Abernathy, of Decatur, GA; sisters, Hazel Driggers and Marianne Manning both of Virginia Beach, VA; several nieces and nephews. Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Walter E. Nix will be held Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home, Decatur, Georgia. He will be laid to rest at the Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Emory Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, Wesley Woods Health Center, 3rd Floor, 1841 Clifton Rd., Atlanta, GA, 30329, (404)728-6950, [email protected], in memory of Walter E.
